Both President Ford and Jimmy Carter must see gold in the undecided list. ' M y f a t h e r u s e d t o v o t e t h e Republican ticket. My mother Was an Irish Prairie Democrat. ' Since they cancelled out each others vote, it was decided that neither one would go to the polls at one election. Whoops! Somebody reported seeing my father going into the polling place. That did it. Mom went flying to cast her vote and never made an agreement on the subjcet again. Wonder if Philip K. Wrigley is one of the undecided. If he has decided on a manager for the 1977 Cubs, he is keeping it a deep, dark secret. If Manager Jim Marshall doesn't have the word by now, he is being treated in a very shabby manner. If the Cubs turn him loose at this late date, it may be too late to hitch his wagon to another star. Marshall had the Cubs playing good ball during the last half of the season. As one announcer says in every interview: "no doubt about it". > Wish somebody would ex plain why pitchers who spend 5 or 6 weeks in the sunny climes of spring training, aren't ready to go full steam ahead when the season starts. Back in the days when men were men and women were glad of it, you could hand a pitcher a baseball and a chaw of tabacco and say "go get em". They didn't enjoy the luxury of many weeks in the sun. In talking to Dick Rabbitt, his opinion seems to be that Libertyville's football team will come to McHenry Friday night snortin' fire. Dick's reasoning is that Lake Forest whomped Libertyville last week and they will be out to clobber somebody -anybody. Since our Warrior quar terbacks have learned how to throw a football, their air at tack has been good. The ground forces will have to pile up some yardage Friday night. The Warriors haven't had that bruising smash 'em, bust em power in the backfield this year. Be ready, Gary. I'll signal for your strong right arm and the final boost of the year into the coop Rumor has it that two radio stations will again set up in the crowded coop With canons to right of him and canons to left of him. Dick will try to an nounce the game to the crowd. It's no place for a visit. It was a shock to hear that our friend Bill DeVries died suddenly. Bill came to my office door many a time to tell me how lousy my White Sox were. Sometimes he wouldn't come in to sit down, he was satisfied to give me the blast, then walk out. (Judge Herrmann was another who did that). It was great fun. In back of Bill DeVries' blustery exterior was a heart of gold. He helped others along the way. So long, Bill. Hope to meet again some day. Am sure it will be hell for you if they have a White Sox team in heaven. Hurricane Runners Third In Conference, Darryl May Is Champ In the West Suburban Catholic Conference meet on Saturday, the Hurricanes of Marian Central finished third on both varsity and frosh-soph levels. On the varsity level Marian took third behind Benet and Marmion with a 5-2 record. Pacing the canes were Mike Gallagher, Ron Mauer, Tony McCormack, Ken Buch, Kevin Coughlin, Chris Hopp and Bob Lister. On the frosh-soph level, Darryl May won his second consecutive conference championship by easily win ning the 3 mile race with a time of 16:23. Backing him were Jesse Garcia, Bill Heric, Fran McCormack, Mike DiPirro and Bob Weltzien. Coach Hans Rokus stated: "I was extremely pleased with both teams" performance. The varsity rallied to finish third despite an injury to our no. 1 runner Tom Hiller and several other boys who were slowed down by injuries and sickness. This marked the highest finish in a number of years and is a real tribute to the hard work and dedication of our seniors and juniors. On the frosh-soph level the entire team did a fine job in the meet as we were edged out of second place by Marmion by only one point - also it was another super performance by our defending conference champion Darryl May as he captured the title again this year." The defeat at the hands of the Scouts all but eliminated any chance Libertyville had to make the state playoffs. Sporting a 4 and 2 conference record the "Cats" are led by quarterback Tim Matthews who not only is a good passer, but a fair country runner. Halfback Guy Matson and end Bill Paramski will both be threats to the Warrior defense. The big Libertyville line is led by tackle John Lenzini, a 6' 225 pounder who at times has proved to be a one man gang. The Warriors will try and increase their winning streak to two. They defeated Crown last Saturday 19 to 12, and although not looking too impressive, they still managed to win the game. Their passing attack last week was good for all three touchdowns, and now if they can get their running game going, they might be a surprise for the favored Libertyville eleven The crystal ball last week really cracked with only 3 right and 2 wrong.
