At left is James MacGilvray, division manager of Brake Parts, as he looks over the work of Francis Poikowski during the tour of the plant. Echlin periodically tours various divisions of Echlin. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Jack Echlin, founder of the Echlin Manufacturing com pany, visited Brake Parts company, a division of Echlin, last week. Mr. Echlin, who will celebrate his eightieth birthday next year, arrived early, met his management team briefly, and immediately went on his way - through the office and plant, meeting and greeting Brake Parts employees, spending the entire day reviewing ' manufacturing, marketing and shipping operations, and visiting with employees at their wofk stations. On his tour, Echlin was in troduced to many new em ployees, and talked to long tenure employees who have known him through the years. His main concern is his em ployees and their progress at Echlin, and to many, he stated. "You have been with us for quite a few years now - are you happy, and have you been treated fairly?" The response was always a "Yes". Echlin spent time with the Engineering Design depart ment. and was briefed oh the latest developments involving the disc brake system, and other hydraulic brake products which will be manufactured at BPC in coming years. He also went through the Engineering Testing laboratory where tests are made to assure product quality. Lunch was hosted by Vice President and General Manager Tom Wall and Division Manager Jim MacGilvray. Representing Echlin were Joe Scott, president, and Bob Burian, vice-president of Personnel. Community guests were An thony Corcoran, administrator, McHenry hospital, and Leroy Olsen, president , of the McHenry hospital board of directors. Echlin has a special in terest in the well-being of his employees, and the people of McHenry, and through the Echlin foundation, a philan thropic organization that bears his name, he has donated thousands of dollars to McHenry hospital to assist the hospital in their community service work. During his visit, Echlin was especially pleased and very proud to learn of the recent award Brake Parts received from the National Automotive Parts association, which . s e r v i c e s s i x t y - t h r e e distribution centers and 5,000 jobbers nationwide.
