PAGE 14 - PLAIN DEALER-WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 8, 1976 Urge Immediate Holiday Mailing f youth ON THE MOVE Postmaster LeRov Smith has urged immediate mailing of all domestic Christmas cards and parcels and encouraged customers to help expedite delivery by using zip codes in view of the excellent cooperation received from early mailers so far this year, we are confident that holiday mail deposited immediately will be delivered in time for Christmas", Postmaster Smith said The last of the suggested dates for mailing domestic greeting cards within the forty- eight "mainland" states and Alaska and Hawaii is Friday, Dec 10 In addition to appealing to customers to mail as early as possible. Postmaster Smith also is encouraging mailers to "package with care". "Customers who follow our fundamental packaging procedures will b?. more assured that their gifts w,;jll arrive in time for Christmas and. most of all in good con dition", Postmaster Smith said The ABC's For Packaging Christmas Gifts For Mailing low: A FRAGILE ITEMS can damage each other within the same package if they are not individually cushioned and separated by fiberboard strips. Newspaper or similiar materials provide good cushioning. B TEXTILE PRODUCTS need a sturdy container because they offer little support to the box If the outer corrugated container is too large, it can easily be trimmec to size by slitting the 4o\ corners as needed. C. STUDY HARDWARE ITEMS, like an electric knife, deserve good packaging, too. The light paperboard box in which such goods are sold was never intended to be a shipping container. Always place the display container within a sturdy corrugated box. Cushioning can be crumpled newspaper or similiar materials. All packages intended for mailing should be sealed with reinforced tape, Postmaster Smith said. "Customers al%o ^are reminded to only put the address on one side of the outer carton However, a sup plemental address card may be placed inside to assure delivery if the outer address becomes illegible." * • * * It*s e asier to utter brave words than to live a brave life.
