CHRISTMAS Students in "Back to School Composition for Women" class at McHenry County college take a break during a class period. The class is geared to women authors and toward women who are returning to school. This particular section of English Comp I is geared to women authors and although designed for women returning to school it is not restricted. The current students of this class surmise that the class proves to be the culmination of their conventional day. The class is ripe with women (men are welcome!) of contrasting experiences-opera singer to plant expert-and various ages, as old as 17 and as young as 68. When discussing or examining the women authors of past centuries, their views, or their enigmas, the students realize that though separated by time, the problems of women remain somewhat unchanged. Being able to relate to what they read and how they feel and act creates a better understanding of what is happening today and what women are trying to ac complish And what better way to illustrate these ac complishments than with the pen. The acquired art of writing enables one to profess a love, admit a guilt, declare a faith, or sanction a belief. Writing turns mental indigestion into satire, humor, wit and irony. It is the instrument that enables one to organize thoughts and realize that one has something to say. Registration is now in process at the McHenry County college campus. English 151 C is offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 11. There is also a seminar offered immediately after the class (11 a.m. until 1 p.m.) entitled "Survival Strategies for Returning Women Students." Sue Halaska and Darlene Hoffman, MCC counselors, give returning women extra help with making the big adjustment to college. The composition instructor, Mary Kurtzman, is available for anyone who may have questions. Students from the fall class will also be happy to help with information or details about the instructor or the course. For those who are apprehensive about returning to school . please call either the counseling office or Mary Kurtzman at 455-3700.
