Sidelines by Dick RabMtt' The Warriors put on a fancy display of rebounding against Mundelein last Friday and as a result came out the winner. However, on Saturday night at Zion they were badly outrebounded, and thus wait down to their first conference defeat of the season. This is an important factor in the game, and I'm sure the Warriors are putting in a lot of work in that department this week. That long with working against a zone defense. As long as the ZeeBees played man to man last Saturday night, the Warriors were in the ball game. Once they went into their zone, the Warriors were unable to connect from the outside. However, for a team with only two lettermen they are showing progress, and as the season rolls on they will be in the thick of it. Fans last Friday were treated to seeing one of the finest scorers in this part of the state. Greg Boyle, Mundelein guard, is hitting at a 34 point per game average. He is a marked man in every game, yet he manages to score. True he shoots a lot, but when you have a boy of his caliber, that's the thing to do in every game. Some visiting fans were in attendance at the games last weekend. Grandma Stuckey from Florida, who is Jeanne Ludwig's mother, and Ken's parents the Leo Ludwig's from Effingham, 111. These folks are real fans of the Warriors. The Water Warriors did a fine job at the tough East Aurora Invitational last Saturday. Sixth place in a 12 team meet of that caliber says something for the tankers of Mike Shanahan. Mike does not have an over abundant squad this season, but is making the most of it. Coach Marty Sobczak has his wrestlers this weekend at Harvard. This tourney has become known as one of the toughest and finest in this part of the state. one thing missing this year will be the absence of the Rockford schools. Sometime this month the Rockford people will vote again on a bond issue, to restore some programs including athletics. Maybe this time a compromise can be worked out, as high school athletics don't seem the same without a Rockford representative in the program. A tip of the fedora to Jonie Witz, my gal Friday, who supplies me with the wrestling results when the Warriors are out of town. Does a fine job, even though at times she is forgetful. Some food for thought. After viewing last weekend games, I am of the opinion that when the Warriors enter into their new conference in 1978, that basketball games should be held on Tuesdays and Fridays. I hope that the powers to be, have the same view. Distance will be of no concern. Attendance at Saturday night games leave something to be desired. Also it puts a hardship on the players, having two games in as many nights. With underclass games scheduled for Sat. a.m., and Monday p.m. these coaches are in a whirlwind. Example is sophomore Coach Gary Collins. Last Friday night the sophs played, Saturday morning a B game, Saturday night another soph game, and Monday afternoon another B game. This weekend the genial coach has a game Friday night, another Saturday morning, Saturday night, and next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the sophomore tourney. He will really be ready for Christmas vacation. A little advance news, the Warriors will again host a regional tourney March 1,2 and 4th. Teams have not been assigned, but the winner of the McHenry regional will again go to Rock Valley in Rockford for the Sectional. Pairings will be out next week, but the Warriors will play Hirsch of Chicago in the first round of the Elgin Holiday Tourney. If you recall Hirsch won the State Tourney several years ago, and after a letdown, are again headed for the top in the Chicago Public League. American Legion Junior High Basketball Tourney At West Campus Dec. 27 The American Legion Junior High School Basketball Tournament will be held at McHenry High School West Campus on Dec. 27, 28, 29. Representing McHenry will be Parkland Junior High, McHenry Junior High and Montini, Harrison from Wonder Lake. St. Johns and Johnsburg are also included. The first game has McHenry against St. Johns starting at Montini Mustangs Montini Mustangs won the second conference game defeating Harrison school 38 to 37 in a exciting game. The Mustangs lead the entire game, but lost a 10 pt. lead to set up the exciting finish. Leading scorer for the Mustangs was Sean Haley with 11 pts., followed by Tom Sharp and Joe Johnson both with 8 pts. Montini Mustangs were able to win again on Thursday against Fox River Grove 37 to 35 to complete*a successful week and to run their record to 3 wins and 1 loss. Top man in this game was Chris Freund with 11 pts. and 15 rebounds. Chris was everywhere on the court and played his best game of the year. "The line that it straightest offers the most resistance."
