Two female kittens for adoption; both will be spayed by Helping Paws when they are the proper age. The all-white charmer has blue eyes and is 14 weeks old. Her pretty companion is a mottled Calico, 18 weeks old. Either one a nice Christmas present for the household. Phone 338-0132 to make arrangements to see them. PHOTOCOM PHOTO HELPING PAWS Bv Estelle Atwell If you wept over this poignant listing of a lost dog in recent weeks: Toy Poodle, female, 10 years old, silver-gray, just clipped, taken out of yard, owners heartbroken, you will be relieved to learn the tiny dog has been returned. About three weeks after she was taken, the dognapper dropped her off at the owners' front doorstep. However, it wasn't the happy homecoming it should have beer, and the circumstances do not indicate that returning the dog was a sincere effort to make amends on the part of the thief. There was evidence that attempts had been made to mate her. There was evidence, too, that she had been mistreated. She no longer is able to jump as she did, She cowers, and is withdrawn, and her eyes have a reproachful expression. Of course, the incident was not the owners' fault, but a dog doesn't know this and expresses its anguish to its loved ones. Either the dognapper saw the listing and realized he had a ten-year-old female; or, found after attempts to mate her that he couldn't accomplish this. The pretty little animal, newly clipped did not appear to be ten years old. The dognapper may have thought he had a young female. In time, the owners hope she will once more feel secure and safe and loved. But the entire experience has been a traumatic one for a small protected pet. Christmas isn't the time to enroll more members in the Ugly American club, but this individual belongs in it. Or, should we modify the con demnation because, at least, he did return the dog? Usually motives are a basis for judgement. The evidence shows a plan to gain through stealing and using a small helpless animal, which is inexcusable. It seems safety measures for your pet must go beyond the usual precautions. We advise pet owners to take no chances that allow opportunity for the unscrupulous.
