I On The Sidelines • - - -- • ' , hy Dick ItafeMft Wa,rriors ^oss ^st weekend extended their J™1* 10 »ve 11 h?s been a long time since the Warriors nave lost five straight games. Inconsistency seems to be the onlv word for the Warriors poor showing the past 1 - several weeks. , g .I'm sure that the coaching staff is aware that more scoring punch is needed, and if the Warriors are going to he heard from the restof the season, this item is surely a * must for the team. They really haven't played that bad. As Coach Ludwig had mentioned, tl>ey are just a step away and maybe one of these days, we hope tonight, that they will catch fire and play th^^oall they are capable of playing and start a winning streak. Was disappointed in the game Saturday night at Wpodstock. The officiating left something to be desired. It seems that the brand of ball played in the Northwest Suburban is more physical than the* North Suburban. Realizing that Vince Lombardi was once quoted as saying basketball Was a collision sport, the game Saturday night was just plain murder. In comparison the North Suburban is more of a finesse conference, and when tournament times rolls around, you see the physical teams fall by the wayside. The I.H.S.A. has made rome football changes for next season. Each conference is to have on file before the first game, their objective criteria for selecting the conference representative for the state playoffs. This mainly has to do if a tie occurs or there is a three way tie for the conference championship. Next season all regular season games must be played to their completion. No ties are allowed. This does not affect the North Suburban, as they have had this rule the past two years. The only other major change is wh&i a team plays another team either in a higher or lower class. For a win over a higher class team add three points, a loss, no points. For a win over a team in a lower class add two points, and to lose to a team in a lower class subtract one point. It may seem complicated, but remember the hassle Zion Benton went through two years ago. This should at least settle all matters in regards to the state playoffs. A tip of the fedora to Coach Jeff Clayton and his freshmen swimming team. Last week they won the Libertyville Invitational, which had some of the better frosh squads in this part of the state. Congratulations are in order to heavyweight wrestler Bob Larke of Coach Marty Sobczak's "Rassling Warriors". Recently Bob broke a 15 year old record when he recorded his 7th pin in one season. Since then he has upped it to 8. The old record was held by one of McHenry's finest, Dan Kinnerft, now a local police officer. Bob is now one pin away from the career record of 10 held by Steve Hurckes. With six matches remaining, Bob has ample opportunity to not only break Steve's record, but to set a record that will be hard to beat in the future. .. Here is hoping the young lad accomplishes his goal, and Bob still has another season to add to his record. With all the high scoring basketball games these days, we thought we would take you back down memory lane to basketball in the good old days. In the district tourney held in Woodstock in March 1931, the Warriors defeated Huntley 19 to 10. This was the days of the four fouls, and the center jump. I'm afraid if people witnessed a 5 to 5 halftime score, the gym would be empty the second half these days. Anyway for any of you that Are still around who played in this game, I hope this brings back pleasant memories.
