NEW BANQUET HALLS AVAILABLE Parties from 25 to 750 Taken for any Demands on the faciliite^ of Memorial Hospital tof McHenry County make it imperative that the board of directors begin plans to conf struct additional facilities for ancillary _ services. Bert Hanson, executive director of the county-wide hospital, revealed this week. Hanson. who j has spearheaded major building programs for the hospital in 1958. 1962. and 1970, reported the board has had a long-range planning committee, studying many facets of the present facilities including projected 10-year requirements. Providing some insight into the growth demands on the hospital with resultant critical areas. Hanson told the audience of 200 at the Memorial Hospital for McHenry County association annual meeting that "we have seen increased activities in all departments and w£ find all our facilities are heavily used." •"Those most used are X-ray, laboratory, emergency room, physical therapy, and elec trocardiography." "We a^so need more space for the business office, housekeeping, linen room, maintenance and medical records." Hanson warned association members that construction of additional facilites is "a must if we are going to keep with the demands of modern medicine." Additional hospital beds are not necessarily needed but replacement of some of our non-conforming beds in the oldest wing is necessary." Hanson pointed out the staff is cost-conscious and striving for efficiency. He recalled the hospital board borrowed $ 11 million seven years ago for a 10-year period. The good news, he said, is that the board can pay that amount off in seven years because "our financial condition is better that it has ever been in the 63-year history of the hospital." "We are in a position where we can be debt-free before we embark on a new building program." he summarized. "Past additions have been built on a tight budget. So will any new one. but I hope we can include the necessary improvements so we can provide the modern facility that will make Memorial Hospital the No 1 medical facility in McHenry county." Concluded Hanson: "We have the medical staff, nursing staff, hospital-based physicians and all the ancillary help we need to provide excellent medical care to those in need I only ask that you realize what a great institution we have in Woodstock, and that you support the programs I expect Proper Animal Care Important This Winter Animal ownership assumes responsibility,to properly care for the animals, says David G. Plocher. Agricultural Ex tension adviser in McHenry county Winter weather will take its toll of farm animals if proper care is not taken. Rural residents with only a few acres and a few animals must be much more careful because time and facilities often are not as adequate as that of a com mercial livestock producer. It is very important that animals receive adequate amounts of water and good quality feed, as well as shelter from wind and moisture. One or two animals cannot share body heat as a whole herd does. the board of directors will develop in the near feature." Plocher says ways to become more familiar with livestock needs include visiting a neigh boring commercial livestock farmer, talking to a ver- terinarian, the Illinois Hooved Animal Humane society, or contact our office, the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension service at 11909 McConnell road in Woodstock.
