1 m •* \ * . • • • McCullom Lake Conservation dub Ice Fishing Derby Feb. 5-6 MCC Karate Students Win Orange Belts--Students in the McHenry County College Beginning Karate class were tested at the conclusion of the fall semester for standards of performance for promotion to an Orange Belt A student begins his Karate career with a white belt. Successive degrees are the Orange Belt, 2 degrees in Green Belt. 3 degrees in Brown Belt, and the Black Belt. Dale, who lives in McHenry, started studying Karate at Northern Illinois University where he earned his Brown Belt He earned his Black Belt at the YMCA in Crystal Lake while an assistant Karate instructor. Prior to becoming an instructor for MCC, Dale taught Karate for three years in Texas. Registration is now in process at the College campus for the Spring Beginning Karate class. The class, which begins February 1st, will be held at Woodstock High School. The class is from 7:3fl to 9:30 n.m. and will run for 10 weeks. McHenry Wrestlers Defeat Antioch And Freeport Coach Marty Sobczak's McHenry High wrestling team defeated Antioch and Freeport in the Eockford Boylan triangular held last weekend. The annual McCullom Lake Ice Fishing Derby will be held Feb. 5 and 6 at the McCullom Lake Beach House, Village of McCullom Lake. Proceeds of the Derby will be used for lake and fish management purposes by the McCullom Lake Conservation Club. Normally closed to the general public, McCullonfLake is opened once each year by the Conservation Club to raise funds for its conservation work. The lake contains panfish (bluegills and crappy/), channel cats, largemouth bass to 5 lbs., and northern pike to 12 lbs. Prizes will be awarded on an hourly and daily basis. To be eligible, fisherman must possess a valid Illinois fishing license, and an Ice Derby ticket. Fishing licenses, food, beverages, bait, and fishing tackle are available at the McCullom Lake Beach House. This year, for the first time the Ice Fishing Derby will be Baptists Slate Chinese Church Leader Feb. 9 The Rev. Silas Hong, Ph. D. China specialist for Un derground Evangelism, will speak at First Baptist.church, 509 North Front street, McHenry, Wednesday night, Feb. 9 at 6:45 p.m. The Rev. Hong, a native of Hupeh, China, just returned from an extensive Far East visit where he conferred with many leading church men and evangelical groups about today's religious situation in mainland China. He is now on a world-wide speaking tour to explain the need for Bibles and other religious literature in awakening China. Born in 1939, the Rev. Hong traveled over much of China as"' a youth with his family and fled to Hong Kong in 1948 to escape the communist invasion. He speaks six different Chinese languages, un derstands many more. He has written both his thesis and dissertation on the church in China, and has recently completed his book, "How God Has Used 25 Years of Com munism to Prepare China for Evangelism" to be published by the Fleming Revell com pany in New Jersey. On the basis of his experience and reports, Underground Evangelism's activities in literature preparation and distribution in China will be further developed. The public is cordially invited to hear the Rev. Hong at First Baptist church. combined with an indoor mini- sportsman show.
