Someone who depends upon their fingertips to get the message, and knows that it's late afternoon only when the warm sun kisses their cheeks? You may find that they "see" a lot more than we do! In a dark world, people come to the truth by the sound of voices, the feel of things, the touch of others. Much of life is a sham. Hairstyles don't matter, nor the kind of car someone drives, or the cost of their clothes, or the lavishness of their home. It is the person who counts. A blind person knows faith, too. because he has needed it desperately, because he's had to grope for it. because it's become very tangible, very precious, when finally he has found it. We could take lessons. RTE. 120 MCHLNHY MARKET PLACE .1 Large Fine Levied Against Nine Crystal Lake Realtors Illinois Attorney General William J. Scott recently an nounced the settlement of a civil antitrust suit against nine Crystal Lake real estate brokers that will permit sellers of real estate to negotiate commission rates' rather than be charged fixed rates by the brokers. The nine brokers are members of the Associated Listing service. Attorney General Scott said the settlement provides that the brokers advertise the fact that commission rates are "negotiable between each ALS member and its client." The ALS also agreed to pay $30,000 as a civil penalty and to amend its by-laws so that they are not u n r e a s o n a b l e o r discriminatory against brokers who are not members of ALS. The nine brokers are also enjoined from entering into any future combinations in restraint of trade and are required to file semi-annual reports with the Attorney General'§ office. The settlement resulted from a suit filed by Attorney General Scott July 7, 1976 in McHenry County Circuit court against the real estate multiple listing service, ALS, 414 Virginia street, Crystal Lake, and the following nine real estate firms, all of Crystal Lake, Baird & AVarner, 386 Virginia street; Byrnes Brothers, Realtors, 6315 W. Northwest highway; Carlson Real Estate, 414 Virginia^ street; Durbin- Stovall associates, 6 Crystal Lake plaza; John H. Fuhler Real Estate, 7101 Virginia road; Kirchberg Realty, 10 Virginia road . Northern Illinois Realty service. 18 Virginia rbad; Fred Buck Realty, 371 Virginia street; and Essex- Costello Real Estate, 366 Virginia street. Attorney General Scott pointed out that this is the second suit his office has brought successfully against real estate brokers for fixing commission rates. The first, brought July 1,1971 against the MAP multiple listing service and its real estate broker membership resulted in a consent decree in which seventeen major real estate firms in the northwest suburban communities of Chicago were enjoined from price fixing of real estate broker commissions and other acts of illegal monopoly in restraint of trade in the r<j&l estate market in eleven nor thwest suburban communiti# Jr. Scott said real estate brokers throughout the state should be aware that fixed brokerage rates are in violation of the Illinois Antitrust act and will be challenged by his office. My children aren't little anymore and there wasn't enough housework to keep me busy," she recalls. Now Mrs. Turner spends several hours four mornings a week doing volunteer work in the cafeteria at McHenry County college, and she's found a niche where she is needed. Unable to work full time because she was paralyzed three years ago and is still recovering. Mrs. Turner missed the activity her life held when her five children were young and when she worked as a nurse aid. "I'll probably never go back to work full time." she says now, but she has found a place where her volunteer efforts are ap preciated. Before coming to work at the college. Nancy talked to em ployers about volunteer work, but many were skeptical of her motives, she said. "I wanted to feel useful and needed," she explained, "but MCC was thfc only place "I found whehe volunteers are welcome. I love working" here and running tWe cash register ", she saijJ. "I was slow at first because I've nev£r been 'sharp' with money and I didn't know how to work thi? cash register. Now I have th£ 'hang' of it and I'm beginning to get over the panic. The womeh in the cafeteria make me feel welcome and the students are beginning to know me." Mrs Turner's volunteer work at the college has led her t(> take a course in "Religions of the World" this semester. But she plans to continue her work rather than just become & student at the college. She said, "I'd like to learn more about running a cafeteria, about menu planning and preparing the food, so it is more than a chance to get out of the house for me now 1 really am in terested. I think everybody wants to be needed and ap parently I'm needed here."
