Seems t' me, folks enjoyed things a lot more, in those days, when special times weren't occurrin' often enought t' b'come com monplace. There's bound t' come the' time, when th' stores o' this good earth are depleted, an' it ain't a goin' t' be easy t' find somethin' t' replace what it's taken millions o' years to' provide. It's hard t' believe that man's selfishness, an' lack o' consideration an' appreciation o' th' good things may deprive him o' th' comforts he now enjoys, but it is possible, an' at th' rate he's a goin' it won't be long. Seems a bit late t' try an' mend ways, an' all that's gone can't be recovered. Hard times seem t' loom ahead, an' this severe winter may ha' served t' make folks conscious o' th' good things we enjoy. But springtime '11 come, an' summer, an' folks, '11 soon f'rget. Seems necessary f'r our gover'ment t' take steps t' make folks ever conscious o' th' necessity t' economize. This granny recalls th' ad ministrations, long ago, that encouraged folks t' spend, an' we, who'd lived through hard times, saw th' fallacy o' that policy. So, we're in th' mess, an' seems there's no way out. Habits ha' been formed, an' folks don't like to' go back t' doin' wi'out what they want. So it goes, an' only time'll tell. Grandma Radtke Add Spice To Life With "Chili Feed" Members of the Crystal Lake Lions club prepare for their annual "Chili Feed" which the organization is sponsoring Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Crystal Lake high school cafeteria between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Proceeds from "Chili Feed "77" will go toward FEATURING SPENGEL MEATS CHARCOAL BROILED TO PERFECTION MR. AND MRS. THOMAS COTE' McHENRY NEWLYWEDS - Lisa Huemann exchanged wedding vows with Thomas Cote' in St. John the Baptist Catholic church Saturday, Jan. 15, before the Rev. Leo Bartel. The couple took a honeymoon trip to Florida and are now making their home in McHenry. Long winter days, when grannies don't get about so much, th' rockin' chair creaks n groans, wi' th' rockin', n rockin'. Thoughts go back, t' long ago, when life seemed more simple in many ways, but times came, when things wuz purty hard, an' it took brave souls t' weather em. Spring time always came, an' like havin' babies, th' mind forgot th' pain, an' hardships, and life went on, until another winter came along.
