Illinois 3t5.(] Couple Wed Fifty Years "Good Citizens" Winners Recent celebrants were Mr and Mrs Edward Marsh, who were surprised at a party honoring their golden wedding anniversary. The occasion was par ticularly memorable to them because of illnesses which sent them to the hospital numerous times in recent months. However, they were able to enjoy the planned party culminating fifty happy years of marriage Guests attended from McHenry. Ohio and Georgia Ed and Matilda Marsh were married Feb 2. 1927 They resided in Chicago until moving to 2603 W. Henzada avenue. Shalimar subdivision in the McHenry community, many years ago Before poor health forced his retirement in 1974. Mr Marsh was employed in the meat department of Huppy & Leo's and Dan's Food Market Mr Marsh's fondest memories include the years he was a paper boy delivering the Cleveland Plaindealer Later, he worked in a grocery and market in East Cleveland Among his customers was John D Rockefeller, to whom he delivered meat and groceries at the Rockefeller home, called Forest Hill He recalls that Bob (Leslie) Hope, worked as a delivery boy at another store up the street in Cleveland. Later. Mr. Marsh opened his own market in Chicago, a business that eventually ex panded until he was operating iour stores. Safety Fi lm Viewed By Club Members Tom Phillip? from the Milwaukee Railroad was the speaker when the Wonder Lake Senior Citizens club gathered for a meeting Monday, Feb. 21. An interesting program was presented along with a twenty minute film on the safety at gate crossings. Secretary and treasurer's reports were read and accepted and thirty-one Senior Citizens had their blood pressure taken by the qualified staff of four registered nurses. The program is open to all Wonder Lake Senior Citizens the third Monday of each month from 11 a m to 12:30 p.m. An interesting trip and tour of the Janesville General Motors plant and many side trips is set for Tuesday March 15, leaving Nativity church lower parking lot at 7:30 a.m. Ann Albergo, Eveyln Lichi and Eveyln Gustafason were extended speedy recovery wishes. Plans for the March 7 meeting consist of a St. Patrick theme. All enjoyed cake which had been made by the men of the club. Two area girls were among several award winners at the Kishwaukee Trail chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution February tea, held late last month. Lucinda Bushell, an eighth grade student who attends Harrison school in Wonder Lake, was the winner of an essay contest based on "Battles of the American Revolution." Clare Higgins, a student at McHenry high school, was given the "good citizen" award by the D.A.R. Miss higgins was the winner from her area school. "Good citizen" awards were given out to one member of each high school in the county. The winner of the good citizen award from Marian Central high school was James Mc Donough Alice Clark, American history chairman, presented the award to Miss Bushell for having the best entry in the eighth grade competition. The purpose of the contest was to promote patriotism and to give a better understanding of the history of this country Besides the award presen tations. a slide demonstration was given by Nancy Lehman. Dressed in an authentic Indian costume, she gave facts and showed slides about the Bicentennial wagon train, which started from the state of Washington, and weaved across the county, finishing a year-and-a-half later at Valley Forge. Yquth In Fashion Show HOSPITAL NOTES Youthful enthusiasm will spark the second annual fashion show sponsored by the St. Patrick's C.C.D. Parents' association when Keith Schultz, Julie Anger and David Wiles model a variety of wearing apparel. The program is not limited to the children, however, and will include pre-teens, teens and ladies ensembles.
