SECTION 2 tPAC'E < - PLA1 NDEALER-WEDXESDAY. APRIL6j, 1977 WORKWISE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS 1. I was fired from my job. Can I collect unemployment insurance? • Your local office will determine whether or not you were fired "for good reason". If your employer had a good reason to fire you. you may be disqualified for the first six weeks of unemployment in surance benefits. If your em ployer had no good reason to fire you, you will be able to collect, provided that you meet all other eligibility requirements. Remember that any waiting period cannot start until after you have filed. 2. Due to budget cutbacks, some people in my office have been laid off. Three other people who have been there for less time are still working there. Don't people have to be laid off according to seniority0 Unless you have a union contract or an agreement with your employer, seniority would not be an issue. If you believe you were discriminated against because of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex. arrest records, or physical or mental handicap, you should contact the Fair Employment Practices commission at 197 West Washington. 4th Floor. Chicago. 111., 60602. (Questions mav be submitted to WORKWISE. 910 South Michigan avenue. Room 1830. Chicago. 111., 60605). Woodstock Man Charged With Tax Evasion ' A Woodstock man was among six Illinois residents recently charged with failing to file an income tax return according to Samuel K. Skinner, United State attorney. Skinner stated that. "Irving Stolar. 8020 Crystal Springs road. Woodstock, was named in a two-count information with the wilful failure to file income tax returns for the years 1971 and 1972." According to Skinner, the information alleged that in 1971, "Stolar earned a gross income of $42,355.87, and that in 1972 he earned a gross income of $63,005.55, which he failed to report to the Internal Revenue service." Stolar works as a salesman. The other five persons charged all live outside the immediate area. State Parks Prove Popular During Winter State parks continue to keep pace with a trend in greater park attendance, according to statistics compiled by the Illinois Department of Con servation. State park attendance in Illinois is among the heaviest in the nation, including Moraine Hills State park, southeast of McHenry. Winter attendance at Moraine Hills accounted for almost 40 percent of the total number who visited the park last year. The cross-country ski trails and ice fishing opportunities are expected to continue to attract many winter visitors, according to the conservation department. Throughout the state, since 1973, when 25 million persons visited the parks, attendance has grown to where, in 1976, 29.7 million persons used state park facilities.
