Deborah Wrecke, Pat Wroblewski and Diane Ziemba Charge "Sell Out" In Appropriation For RTA State Rep Cal Skinner, Jr. (R-Crystal Lake) and State Senator Bill Morris (D- Waukegan) have charged the Senate Republican leadership with "selling out the suburbs and collar counties" by providing the seven votes essential to pass a $16 million supplemental appropriation to the Regional Transportation Authority. The bill cleared the Senate by a bare thirty vote majority. "This probably means no RTA reform legislation will pass either house this session," Skinner said, "The only lever we RTA opponents have to force RTA reform is money. Giving Chicago the money they demand to subsidize the CTA first and hoping their forces will be nice' and help us in the rest of the region get our fair share later is absurd," Skinner continued Morris pointed out that many of his Senate allies in the Democratic Party withheld their votes from an RTA ap propriation bill for the first time in their Senate careers. He expressed his severe disap pointment that members of the majority party in most of the Chicago suburbs refused to represent the "obvious self- interest" of their constituents.
