Uou ll wcff down our vafe. delectable Levi's Just watched the White Sox win their home opener 5 to 2 over the Bombers of Boston. Now that was a nice way to stqirt the home stand. •oving Jorge Orta back to hiafbecond base position should pr^ve to be a plus. Bannister has been all that one could ask for at shortstop. The Cubs got a shortstop, De Jesus, in the Rick Monday trade who is proving to be much more than a throw-in. Guess I have said enough good things about those North Siders or my White Sox Booster Gub members will begin to wonder. It is just our perpetual wish that the two Chicago teams will some day play each other in a World Series. The sports world will mourn the death of Philip K. Wrigley, owner of the Cubs. Many thought he should have stepped down and handed over the club to somebody else some years ago. Whatever the fans or players thought of Mr. Wrigley, he was respected as a man who held fast to his convictions. His hitting has been good and he runs bases like a scared deer. Soderholm was a bargain basement find and may prove to be the top flight performer he was before injuries knocked him out of the box last year at Minnesota. With Jim Spencer at first base, the Sox infield looks good. Oh -- sure! We watched the Cubs and think they have a much better team than in dicated during spring training. They lost a couple of stars in the millionaires bidding, but aren't hurting with fellows like Murcer andBittner Bittner has taken squatters rights on the first base job and may give Buckner a longer time to heal his wounds than planned. In high school play, when one team is ahead by ten or hiore runs after five innings of play, the game is called and the team leading is declared the victor. In the Jacobs loss, Tim Frantz was the starting and losing pitcher for the Warriors, who managed to get only four hits in the game. The McHenry high school freshmen also lost to Jacobs, 13-9, and on Tuesday Elgin defeated McHenry's sophs 7-4. The outfield? Something tells us there will be some changes. Watch for the fleet footed Nystrom to take over some spot. Pitching has been good so far, but the experts say it won't be good enough. Let's wait and see. While Jacobs' first baseman waits for the throw from his pitcher, Warrior Mark Rogers reaches out to grab the base as he dives back to first. This scene repeated itself three times before Rbgers got enough leadoff to safely steal second after his base hit in the fourth inning of Monday's 4-3 loss to Jacobs. The defeat drops the Warrior overall record to 5 and 3 while they remain 2 and 1 in conference play. McHENRY TIRE MART 3931 W. MAIN ST. McHENRY* ILL 815/385-0294 By Dick Rabbit Coach Wally Scott's McHenry high school thinclads finished last in a triangular track meet held at Antioch Monday. Antioch won the meet with 76 points while Mundelein scored 56 and the Warriors 46. The Warriors picked up three first place finishes, including Dan Schaefer, who won the 100- yard dash in 10.8 seconds. Schaefer was running into a stiff breeze. A1 Reinboldt tossed the discus 133 feet, 8 and one-half inches to pick up another first place, while Mike Peterson skimmed over the high hurdles in 16.6 seconds, running into the wind, for the third first place finish for McHenry. Saturday, the Warriors travel to Oswego for the annual Panther relays. Varsity Results 2-mile relay: 1) Mundelein, 2) Antioch, 3) McHenry. Time- 8:36.8. In our younger days, warm days made mothers decide on spring housecleaning. It seemed to us that the whole house was torn up at once. Everything but the kitchen sink was moved outside for airing. It was time to beat the rugs and wipe up the floors. It was also time for a man to get away from the house if at all possible. This is Jo Ann Hutchinson's last week of setting type for the Plaindealer. You may have noticed that we have been able to print sports stories in more detail. That happened when JoAnn came along to help our Little Helen. JoAnn likes sports events and understands what it is all about. We are going to miss her - a lot. WHOOPS!
