The Elgin Humane society of North Central Illinois and the McHenry county Holding Shelter are brim full most of the time. Also, the two non- sheltered animal welfare agencies of McHenry county are swamped with animals for whom there is often no place. This situation comes as a shock and surprise to people LENNOX AIR CONDITIONING •TOP DISCHARGE •QUIET OPERATION •ECONOMICAL •COMPACT who want to dispose of their animals. It is time they realized that every possible alternative must be exercised to care for these animals, and that it is their responsibility to help in every way. One of the alter natives is to keep them in their own homes until placement can be arranged. Another is to pay someone to board their animals. Although these are usually the least favored choices with people, they are humane choices. Why are so many animals bounced to the shelters, or dumped, or abandoned? STOCKINC DEALER: few simple words it's a case that almost parallels child adoption. The infant, the at tractive and well-born child is favored over an older child or one of mixed race. It's the same with dogs. People want small cute puppies who will stay small. When they find they have a larger dog, it's back to the adoption game for the poor dog. An individual who dearly loves her cockapoo adopted while still a puppy found it grew to be monster size. The "poo" part of the dog was a standard poodle and they run large. She, of course, isn't giving up her lovable pet, but many people would. Then there are the backyard breeders who couldn't care less how many animals they breed for possible sale. And those who add to the crisis overpopulation figures by letting their animals breed indiscriminately.
