Weather has been more favorable and spring sports are going great guns at McHenry high. Dick Rabbitt is really the man in motion as he covers high school sports for your sports page. You will note that no-hitters are getting to be a habit with our pitching staff. Finally caught up with Ar nold Rauen. He gets around the U.S. like we drive around McHenry County . If Arnold ever retires from banking, he could start a travel tour business and be the chief guide. Let us not forget to mention that the Cubs won again today. Those trades look better for the north siders every day. They got a real fine ball player in Bill Murcer - an all around good man to have on any team. And, Wow! That shortstop De Jesus has proven to be anything but a throw-in. Fans who moaned when the Sox sent Bucky Dent to the Yankees didn't reckon with Bannister. He does everything you could ask. By Dick Rabbitt Barry Paulsen. junior righthander of Coach Ken Swanson's McHenry high Baseball Warriors, put the . Warriors into the Regional tourney at Elgin Saturday against Barrington. The Warriors defeated Rich mond on Monday 10 to 1, as the Warriors put the game away in the second inning with an 8 run outburst. The stocky righthander struck out 12, and walked only 5. Three of the 5 walks occurred in the second inning as the young lad walked the bases full, but then proceeded to gain his control and strike out the side. He added to the offensive attack with a double and triple, the only extra base hits of the game. The Warriors pounded out 13 hits, and committed no errors in the seven inning game. They play Barrington Saturday at 10 a.m. at Elgin high school. I Coast Guard , Distant rumbling combines with the howling gale to chill the souls of the skipper and his family as the storm gathered aroupd them. Aboard the small sailboat for a day of summer celebration, they instead en tered a nightmare. A low buzzing was heard first, as sparks danced over the sails. The family, now huddled, felt the tingle, and looked at each other, momentarily surprised to see their hair standing on end. Their fear was beyond panic. In an instant, a blast of light and sound exploded the mast into flaming splinters, a sheet of fire engulfed the deck Mm -1 ••Mpip-l jsTii lip " '*/ THE FASTBALL was used by Warrior pitcher Barry Paulson as he struck out 12 Richmond Burton players in the final game of the district held at McHenry, Monday. Barry, a junior, gave up just one hit and walked five men as he recorded his third win against one loss in the 10-1 victory. The Warriors will play Barrington in the Regional tourney at Elgin high this Saturday. Game time is 10 a.m. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) and blasted through the hull like a cannonball. LIGHT NING! That awesome electrical discharge has killed more persons over the past 30 years than tornados, hurricanes, or floods. It is not reassuring to the pleasure boaters to know that over 40 percent of lightning deaths related to recreational activities occur in, on, or near open water. While headlines are devoted to those less selective forces of nature that cause multiple deaths, light ning fatalities usually occur singly. One stroke, one person, one death. From studies drawn from years of case histories provided by the National Weather Service and other agencies, there are safety precautions that can effectively reduce the changes of being singled out by lightning. The foremost precaution the pleasure boater can take is to stay out of harm's way. Don't go out in the lake without first checking the latest weather report. If there is a chance of thunderstorm^ keep tuned to the weather band on the FM frequency. In most cases a thunderstorm can be seen approaching, allowing the smart skipper to scurry towards shore.
