What looked much like a McHenry Warrior basketball scrimmage ; was instead the All-Star game at the Medalist Hall of Fame Camp - in Naperville. Five McHenry athletes were selected and given ! starting positions for the contest. They are (from left) Chris Dixon, Steve Knox, unidentified player, Barry Paulsen, Don Bentz, unidentified player, and Scott Dixon. The "shirts" won the exciting game, which went into overtime, 29 to 27. The Dixon brothers, Scott (left) and Chris (center), received the two top awards at the Medalist Hall of Fame Basketball Camp at North Central College last week. Camp coach Pat Sullivan presented plaques to the two McHenry high school athletes during the awards ceremony. Scott was named "Outstanding Player" and Chris was named "Outstanding Camper", an award presented to the athlete whose general ability, attitude, and desire is most exemplary. Five McHenry Cagers are All-Stars At Hall of Fame Basketball Camp Five members of the McHenry Community high school basketball squad received starting positions in the All-Star game which highlighted the Medalist Hall of Fame Basketball camp at North Central college in Naperville last week. Selected from among the top players at the camp, which attracts prep stars throughout the midwest, were McHenry seniors Steve Knox and Barry Paulsen, juniors Scott Dixon and Don Bentz, and sophomore Chris Dixon. Knox and Paulsen played on the West All-Star team and Bentz and the Dixon brothers played on the East squad. The East team won 29 to 27 in overtime. In the awards ceremony, which culminated a week of intensified instruction in just about every aspect of basketball, the McHenry athletes received additional honors. Scott Dixon was named "Outstanding Player" in the NBA division, which included all high school players at the camp. He was also a leading scorer for the team which took first place in the NBA tour nament. Chris Dixon also received one of the camp's top awards. He was named "Outstanding Camper" by the coaches from among the camp's 150 athletes. This award is presented to the athlete whose ability, attitude, and desire is most exemplary. Steve Knox was named "Outstanding Defensive Player" by the coaches in the NBA division, The energetic guard paced the first place team in the NBA and won a special jump-shooting contest. Barry Paulsen, the husky forward for the McHenry Warriors, was named "Out standing Rebounder" in the NBA classification. Don Bentz, who was sidelined from the sophomore Warriors much of last season because of a broken ankle, was recognized during the award ceremonies as a leading scorer and defensive player for the first place NBA team. The Medalist Hall of Fame Basketball cdmp is staffed by some of the most prominent college, professional, and high school coaches in the country. Through lectures and drills campers are taught the fast break, set patterns and two and three man basketball plays, how to correctly feed the pivot and break presses, one^on-one moves for guards, forwards and centers, strategic basketball, and all defensive principles (switching, over playing, straight man-for-man, zones, zone presses, and multiple defenses). Racket Club Romps 11-1 In Opening Match The Crystal Lake Racket club's Men's Traveling team trounced the Valley Hills club team 11-1 in the season opener. NAIL TAKES OVER FIRST On May 4 the Rusty Nail met O'Brewery in an opening day match in which the Nail won 10 to 6. After that game O'Brewery went on a 9 game win spree including an im pressive twin win over Old Bridge. Last Wednesday the Nail met O'Brewery in a doubleheader to begin the second half of the 1977 season and ended the ^Brewery's streak. In game one O'Brewery took a 5-1 lead into the fifth but Rusty Nail scored 4 runs to tie. The next two innings were scoreless but in the extra inning four Nail runs came across while all O'Brewery could manage was a leadoff runner who was doubled up in a game ending double play. After their 9-5 win the Rusty Nail wasted little time in game two taking a 9-1 lead after five innings and then held on as the Brewery's 4 run sixth closed the gap. One more run for the Nail in the bottom of the sixth was just icing on the cake as the 10-5 score stood and Rusty Nail took over sole league leader ship in McHenry Area 12-Inch with a 10-2 mark. Old Bridge took a pair from The Chalet winning 19-5 in five innings and then coming from behind to take a 13-9 victory in the nightcap. Both wins keep the Bridge one game behind the new league leaders and tied with O'Brewery for second place. St. Regis kept a game out of second as they won 8-1 and 19-1 over Rhino's. Indian Ridge Manor took a pair from winless McHenry Hospital by scores of 11-3 and 6-4. DOUBLEHEADERS FOR JUNE 29 This week's games see Old Bridge taking two easy games versus Rhino's behind the tennis courts at West Campus. Indian Ridge Manor meets O'Brewery next to the parking lot at West Campus. The Manor needs the victories if they are seriously thinking about the 1977 playoffs. In other Wednesday doubleheaders Rusty Nail plays The Chalet behind East Campus. The league leaders lost a tough 11-10 decision earlier this vear and Kevin Bauer has promised it was only a fluke. Losing just one game would see the Nail drop into a tie for first. The Chalet needs both or they can hang it up as far as playoffs are concerned. McHenry Hosptial plays two versus St. Regis at Peterson Park. I have been saying all year to "not count out the Hospital" in any game, but their record has changed my tactic to 'this should be an easy two wins for Regis'. I hope you are satisfied, Bill Salmen, since this should bring your team its first win! Pat Wirtz Instant Replay , ffc CAILEP MCWJ .
