In the "Hare and Hound Race," balloonists will set out in pursuit of the "hare," the lead balloon which will have a 15-minute head start. The first prize winner will be the balloonist who lands closest to the grounded hare at the end of the race. The winner will receive a cash prize of $300. The second and third place finishers will receive $150 and $75. Local and national cor­ porations, as well as individual balloonists are encouraged to enter the race. A company that does not own a balloon may arrange to lease one through the State Fair. The leasing fee includes rental of a balloon, pilot and choice of banner. The board of directors now consists of Thomas Parsley, Leo Powers, Daniel Welty, Donald Freund and Timothy Lawrence all of Crystal Lake; and Joseph Kennedy of Gary, Illinois.
