Have been trying for a long time to figure out what Fred Bienapfl was talking about when he says somebody tosses out a ball from the dugout to a team coming off the field for a turn at bat. So, we watched closely. Suppose, Fred, that the first baseman takes a throw for the third out. He tosses the ball to the umpire or rolls it out to the mound. When the first baseman nears the dugout, somebody tosses him a practice ball and he folds it in his mitt to use when his team takes the field again. If that isn't what you mean, Fred, ask me again. Anytime I'm not sure, I tell another story just as good. This column likes con tributions but want the humorous kind. Have had some in the last couple of weeks like the fellow who is concerned about people who think they are right all the time. Told him to tell those kind they may be right fifty percent of the time-a darn good batting average. . Another was a pet peeve and one about untruths. Music lovers won't agree, but when a beautiful poem like Joyce Kilmer's "Trees" is put to music it loses something in our estimation. That doesn't mean we don't like music. Whatever it is it must have been said as the McHenry Hospital despite the odds, put it all together. A flawless defense highlighted by Larry Sweeton's plays at shortstop plus an offense which included 3 homeruns and capped by Rich Hopper's clutch single driving in the eventual winning runs during the sixth inning spelled victory for the last place Hospital. After the players left the playing field the post-game analyzers took turns figurine out how the Old Brieve lost but the look of satisfaction on Bill Salmen's face probably said it all. That single victory makes the season worth it! In other games Indian Ridge Manor won two big games versus a faltering Rusty Nail. The Nail has lost 5 of their last 6 and now are pressured to win at least 2 of their final 3 games • otherwise 3 Indian Manor victories and 2 Rusty Nail losses would put the Manor into the playoffs. St. Regis took advantage of two Chalet outfield errors to the Chalet score 6 unearned runs in the first of two games. Regis never scored any more runs but The Chalet could only push across four as Regis won 6-4. In game two St. Regis took a 9-4 decision to sweep the doubleheader and pull within a game of first place. O'Brewery moved into a tie for first place as they whalloped Rhino's 15-3 and 19-5. O'Brewery faces McHenry Hospital this Wednesday while Old Bridge meets Indian Manor in 9-inning single games. Both teams should remain tied for first while St. Regis meets Rusty Nail in the battle for third place, litis will definitely be the game of the week - if Don Prazak is back from vacation we will got with Regis.
