The events will be sponsored by a variety of c o u n t y c o n s e r v a t i o n organizations. On Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 6 p.m., the Youth conservation corps invites the public, and especially senior citizens, to attend the formal opening of the Piscasaw North Con servation area. The YCC'ers have spent the summer im proving the trout habitat of the Piscasaw river. They have developed the area for pic nicking, nature study and fishing, and they will stock the river with rainbow and brown trout. YCC members will be on hand to explain the work they have done and point out the most desirable fishing holes. The Cooperative Extension service, in conjunction with the Soil and Water Conservation district and .the Illinois Department of Conservation, is sponsoring a Pond Field day beginning at 6 p.m. the evening of Aug. 11. Pond construction, maintenance and fish propagation are some of the topics that will be discussed. The workshop will be at the pond located on the former Robert Leopold farm with entrance off Barreville road just south of State Park road (south of McHenry). Following the pond workshop, George Swanson will interpret the skies at the newly agree, that with the financial crunch facing all schools in the county, the new ordinance, weak though it may be, is a step in the right direction. established Indian Ridge-Fox River Conservation area. The interpretive Sky Watch program will include iden tification of the summer con stellations, galaxies, star clusters and possibly a meteor shower. A telescope will be provided for public use. Those attending should bring a flashlight in order to read the August sky chart which will be provided, and if possible, binoculars. The Indian Ridge Con servation area is located three- fourths mile south of State Park road on Sunset drive in the Orchard Heights subdivision. A geological tour of the In dian Ridge area will be con ducted by Neil Benton, a Northeastern Illinois graduate student Saturday, Aug. 13, beginning at 3 p.m. The Indian Ridge area has an unusual combination of hills and kettles left by the glaciers, and this walk will provide a look at these glacial "calling cards". Following the geological tour, the McHenry County Audubon chapter invites the public to join them in an "Owl Hoot" at the Beck's Woods conservation area located near Chemung. Following a "bring your own" picnic supper at 5 p.m., the Auduboners will share information about the birds of this area with em phasis on owls. Recordings of owl songs will be played hopefully to attract the birds and get a first hand look The formal opening of the Nippersink Canoe base will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14. Mrs. Schroeder was a member of the Catholic« Daughters of America in the Batavia Aurora area and also Joyce Kilmer Court No. 573, McHenry*. She was grand regent and district deputy of McHenfy and state secretary ; member of St. Patrick's church, C.D. educator for St. Patrick's church in St. Charles ; and member of the Women's auxiliary for Dfelnor hospital. Survivors include her husband, Ernie; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Mary Ann) Wiles, McHenry, and Mrs. Donald (Frances) Her- drich, Mt. Prospect; three sons, Michael and Gerald Mayfield, McHenry, and Robert Mayfield of Burnsville, Minn.; thirteen grandchildren and four sisters. Mrs. Schroeder was preceded in death by her first husband, Gerald Mayfield, who died Dec. 11, 1958; also, her parents and one sister. LOUISE EHLERT Louise Ehlert, 93, of Wilmot, Wis., (formerly Richmond) died Saturday, July 30, at Burlington hospital in Burlington, Wis. The deceased was born April 27, 1884, in Germany, the daughter of William and Augusta Frank, and came to this country as a young girl. She married John W. Ehlert Oct. 1, 1902, in Wilmot, Wis. Mrs. Ehlert was a lifetime member and the oldest member of the Peace Evangelical Lutheran church in Wilmot. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs; Elsie Paceyr Wilmot, Mrs. John (Edith) Skidmore, Ringwood, Miss Mabel Ehlert, Twin Lakes, Wis., and Mrs. Anton (Mildred) Senkerik, Sunnyside; four sons, > Herman and Lyle of Wilmot, Russell of Twin Lakes and Dean of Kenosha; twenty-nine grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Stoffel of Burlington; and one brother, August Frank of Salem, Wis.
