Mr Bender was born Dec.. 16, 1896, in Chicago, the son of Peter and Julia (Willie) Bender Prior to retirement he was employed as a construction carpenter. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic church, Johnsbflrg. His wife, Lottie N. (Newell), preceded him in death Dec. 31, 1921, after 55 years of marriage. Hillside. LILLIAN M. VENABLE Sixty-nine-year-old Lillian M. Venable of 4616 W. Ramble road, McHenry, died in Highland Nursing home, Genoa City, Thursday, Aug. 18. Mrs. Venable was the daughter of Adolph and Marie A. (Wiederrecht) Straned, born May 19, 1908, in Chicago. She retired in 1966 after employment as an Illinois Bell telephone operator, Pioneers of America. The deceased was preceded Cin death by her husband, Lester L./jn 1973. A daughter, Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Comstock of McHenry, survives as well as a son, Les Venable of McHenry; four grandchildren; five step- grandchildren ; her mother, Mrs. Marie Straned at the Woodstock Residence home and a brother, Harry E; Straned of Lak^moor. Saturday chapel services at the George R. Justen & Son funeral home followed Friday visitation. She was laid to rest at St. Patrick's Countryside cemetery. > KATHERINE RENA SMITH • Mrs. Katherine Rena Smith of 3505 W. Pearl street, McHenry, died in Memorial hospital, Woodstock, Monday, Aug. 22, at the age of 85. Mrs. Smith was born Jan. 18, 1892, in Johnsburg, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Rothermel) Michels. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Society of Foresters and the Christian Mothers Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, William, March 6, 1931; five children, Mrs. Emily Freund, Leonard, Catherine, Luella and Richard Smith; three brothers, Joseph, George and Lortnie Michels; and a sister, Susan Oeffling. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. William (Luella) Funk and Mrs. Eugene (Eileen) King, both of McHenry; three sons, LeRoy, Elmer and Raymond Smith, all of McHenry; fifteen grand- children, ar.d seven great grandchildren. ' *;>l ^ CARRIE SIKORSKI^ A 15-year resident of Spring Grove, Mrs. Carrie (Wisniewski) Sikorski was pronounced dead on arrival at McHenry hospital Saturday, Aug. 20, at the age of 71. She had made her home at 6522 N. Maple. The deceased was born May 24, 1906 and was a Chicago resident prior to the move lo Spring Grove. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic church. Spring Grove, and the Christian Mothers. She was also a member of the Lakes Region American Legion auxiliary. Post 703. Prior to retirement, she was employed at In- termatic of Spring Grove. Mrs. Sikorski leaves three sons, Edward and Erwin J., both of Spring Grove, and Fredrick of Franklin Park. 111.; fourteen grandchildren; one great grandson; two brothers, John Wisniewski of McHenry and Bruno Wisniewski of Chicago; and three sisters, Annette Mabus, Adeline Kupczyk and Lorraine Kopc- zynski, all of Chicago. BURGESS A recent Wonder Lake resident. Owen S. Burgess, died Monday morning from injuries sustained in an industrial ac cident at a manufacturing company in Marengo. He was 18 years old. Recently, he made his home at 7612 Howe road in Wonder Lake. Burgess was born Nov. 28, 1958, the son of Owen and Eilene (Surowiak) Burgess of 10618 Kathleen avenue, Hun tley. He was a former Huntley resident before his recent move to Wonder Lake. He is survived by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Patrick, both living at home; two sisters, Joann (Smith) of Genoa and Suzann (Leis) of Huntley; and three grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Surowaik of Berwyn, and Josephine Hart of Chicago. Private serviceswere scheduled for 11 a.m. Wed nesday in Huntley, with the Reverend Fred Harm of ficiating. Burial was to be in Harvard cemetary. Visitation was private at the James O'Conner Funeral home in Huntley. GEORGE A. KEHOE Former Chicago resident, George A. Kehoe, 80, of 1015 W. Ringwood, Pistakee Highlands, died at his home Thursday, Aug. 18. Mr. Kehoe was born in Chicago Nov. 19,18%, the son of Edward and Ellen (Bateman) Kehoe. He had retired as a streetcar conductor for the Chicago Transit Authority and had been an area resident for the past 14 years. His widow, Dorothy (O'Brien) Kehoe whom he married 55 years ago in Chicago, survives.
