I Offer Radiological Monitoring Course PAGE 23 - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY, AUGUST M, 1917 v McHenry County Emergency .Services it Disaster agency '(MCESDA) will sponsor a Radiological Monitoring course, the first class to be held Tuesday, Aug. 30, in the ESDA Operations room, Emergency Operating center, in the 'courthouse, Woodstock, at 7:30 p.m. It will continue each Tuesday evening for four weeks. Although the 10-hour course was developed originally to train people to measure the level of radiation in the event of a nuclear attack, its peacetime need has grown in importance. Radioactive materials are being used in industry now more than ever, . and consequent! v. are being transported through, around and over our county. The presence of radioactivity cannot be detected by seeing, smelling, or hearing, but only by a trained person with proper instruments. This course will be conducted by Brendan Hawkins, radiological defense officer for McHenry county ESDA. He is a graduate of the special radiological course held at the Illinois State Police Training academy. - Advance registration is necessary and may be made by contacting MCESDA, 338-6400, prior to Aug. 25. There is no charge for this course. Renewal Applications for Licenses In Mail Approximately 65 percent of ,j>re-printed renewal ap plications for 1978 license plates have been mailed to owners of passenger cars, ^motorcycles and second division vehicles which are Registered on a calendar year. ' Secretary of State Alan J. Dixon said that additional Renewal forms are being sent daily. In 1976, passenger car registrations totaled 5.5 .million. ' - " A p p l i c a t i o n s f o r reassignraents and special Requests must be in our Springfield office before the Sept. 30 deadline," Dixon said. ""Reassignment of current , license numbers is guaranteed under state law if recieved by 'the specified date." ; Dixon urged all motorists to retain their pre-print renewals until they are ready to pur chase their license. This form is the only official renewal ap plication accepted for processing. "Pre-prints enable our office to handle the heavy volume far more efficiently,'^ Dixon ex- plaiend. "Even if the address or vehicle has been changed,- the incorrect information should\be lined out and corrected on the form." Deadline for displaying 1977 plates is midnight, Dec. 31. f <• - , * \ >1 r. > Mosquito Bites V" Scientists predict that the world will never be without mosquitoes.
