Shy Aad Friendless Q) I have a shy problem. I can't cooperate with other people and can't get along with them very well. I can't get a friend in school. It seems they are always stuck-up sometimes, and they all seem to be in a group. I don't know what to say to them. I'm not outgoing, and I feel out of place. Sometimes, I feel nervous when I'm along. I get nervous in my stomach. I'm 17 yean old and we live on a farm, and we don't have much money. My name ia Cindy. Would you please send me your Self-Improvement handbook? A) You forgot to send us your address, Cindy. Write to us again and we'll gladly send you a copy to the Self-Improvement handbook. (Any reader can have a copy free of charge by writing Box 500, Pawling, NY 12564.) Shyness is a form of abnormal self-consciousness. If you think of yourself too much, this turns people off. They will avoid anyone who ia concerned only with her own feelings. To effect a change, you will need to do a definite revision of your thinking and attitudes. You can start this proceas by realizing there may be others who feel the same aa you do. Make it your job to help them by being their friend. This will give you practice in outgoing friendship and will soon result in bribing friends to you. It will make you part of the group, for groupe always open to happy people. Where Was The Garden Of Eden? Q) You may think thia ia a silly question. But to me it is not. I want to know on what part of the earth waa the Garden of Eden? Was it in the Holy Land? A) It ia supposed to have been in Meeopotamia, near Babylon and the Tigris and Euphrates riven. Indeed, one paaaes over its presumed location enroute by air from Karachi to Baghdad. It was not in what is now called the Holy Land. Divorced And Desperate Q) I had to leave my husband and I feel desperate. I don't want to have a black future. I went through the divorce laat year, but In a weak moment, took my ex-husband back for awhile. I had left him four or five times before then. He doesn't control himself and hits me so that I know I cannot take the chance ever again. My seven- year-old daughter goes into mad frantic atatee and withdraws herself too. I feel so desperate for suggestions. Can you help me? A) Your wishy-washy attitude toward this man will get you nowhere. If you know you can't take the chance again, don't do it, no matter how desperate you feel. It might be dangerous to jeopardize your daughter's mental health. And remember that your future need not be black. You and God together can make it great!
