PAGE 24 - PLAINDEALEK * WEDNESDAY. SEPTEMBER 14. 1977 Twice Told Tales FIFTY YEAKS AGO (Taken from the files of Sep tember 8, 1927) ThatvAlford Pouse, missing prosecutor of McHenry county, has fled the country, possibly to Canada, is the general belief of the people of this county, following his resignation as state's attorney, which was sent to Governor Small last week and his failure to appear in Judge Charles T. Alien s court Wednesday of last week to prosecute a number of liquor and slot machine cases. No word has been received as to his whereabouts up Jto the present time, although federal officers are said to be seeking him to serve a warrant charging conspiracy to violate the prohibition laws. AH kinds of rumors are heard, some stating that he is in Canada, others suggesting Paris and a few seem inclined to believe he may have committed suicide. Before taking his sudden departure. Attorney Pouse wrote a few letters, one to his wife, one to his stenographer, and one to his fellow attorney. Floyd Eckert, with whom he had been on friendly, if not intimate terms. These letters have not been given out for publicaiton. but in general terms, the facts have been made known that Pouse was leaving for* parts unknown, claimed that he is free from any guilt in the matters con cerning graft or collections from bootleggers.
