The third is a member of the powerful golf team. Craig Smith The low temperature and cofd breeze of recent days is tough on everyone, but it must be especially hard on Craig Smith. That's because the son of Mr. & Mrs. James R. Sailors used to live in the heart of Texas. He moved to this area just two years ago, having lived near Austin, Tex., previously. He plans to return to Texas after graduation next spring, hopefully to attend Baylor uniVersity, and study either law or psychology. Craig is a defensive back on the football team this fall, and also plays tennis. His main hobby is playing the drums. He performs in the school band, and has his own musical group. He said he began playing drums when he was three years old. high school games there draw 2,000-3,000 people. Vici Switzer The daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Jer&ld Switzer, Vici moved to Pistakee Highlands from near Detroit, Mich, a little more than a year ago. She is the goalie on the varsity field hockey team, and has recorded one shutout so far this season. Her family moved here because her father was transfered to this area, and her mother liked the country. She said she "loves it" here, citing the country atmosphere as being the biggest asset. Besides playing field hockey, Vici also played basketball and Softball last year at McHenry high school. She plans on attending St. Anthony's School of Nursing after graduating next May. Presently, she works as a nurses aide at McHenry hospital weekday mornings and on weekends through a work-study program offered at MCHS. Her hobbies include snow skiing and snowmobiling. Tom Pepping This is Tom Pepping's third year as a member of the varsity golf team at McHenry high school, and the son of Mr. & Mrs. Jack Pepping is an intricate part of the Warrior team, which Tuesday won the North Suburban conference championship. Following graduation next spring, Tom plans on attending college, possibly at Indiana university, and studying business. He said that he probably got interested in the game of golf because he lives adjacent to the McHenry Country club. His hobbies include football and basketball, and he was a member of the Warrior baseball team last spring. % OUT OF THE WOODS...and onto the sixth green is where the ball is going following this fine shot by Ron Pepping during the North Suburban conference golf tournament Tuesday. Pepping didn't salvage par on this hole, settling for a bogey, but he carded enough pars and birdies to fire a 74, tieing teammate Jim Buenzli and Lake Forest's Roger Sargent for low round of the day. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD MCHS Finishes 3rd In 8-Team Tennis Tourney Playing in what could only be described as brutal conditions, the McHenry varsity tennis team performed well Saturday, capturing third place in its own invitational tournament. The tourney attracted six teams plus the host school, and was won by Wauconda, which scored a total of seven points, one better than Elgin, and three better than McHenry. Dundee was fourth with three points, followed by Jacobs, Larkin, and Grant. Antioch, which was also supposed to participate, was unable to attend. The tourney had originally been scheduled for the first day of October. However, rain postponed it until last Saturday, when it was held amidst frigid temperatures and a cold, swirling, ^ud very strong wind. Competition, was , inducted in four separate classes, with one team point being awarded for each match a member of a school won. When the single elimination tournament was over, there was a champion in No. 1 singles, No. 2 singles, No. 1 doubles, and No. 2 doubles. It was in the doubles competition that McHenry excelled. The No. 1 doubles team of Sue Directions To Marian '# Game Marian Central plays D r i s c o l l S a t u r d a y afternoon, and fans attending the game can safely get to the football field by following these simple directions. Take Rt. 12 over to Rt. 53 south. Take Rt. 53 south, and remain on it. Soon, it will merge and become Rt. 53 and 190. When Rt. 53 & I 90 split, STAY ON RT. 53. Take Rt. 53 to Rt. 20 East. Take Rt. 20 east for about two miles. There, Rt. 20 intersects with Addison Trail road. Where Addison Trail road intersects Rt. 20, there is a shopping center on the right. Also, the only way to turn onto Addison Trail road is to turn RIGHT. Make that RIGHT turn, which is south, and take Addison Trail road south for about one mile. The high school will be on the left and the football field should be visible from the road. Allow about ninety minutes to get to the game from McHenry. Hutchinson and Kristi Stannell, which has been the cornerstone of the Warrior team throughout the season, finished in second place in the tournament, losing in the finals to Cindy Amrich and Joan Lambiris of Wauconda 6-4, 6-2. Prior to that loss, the Hutchinson-Stannell duo defeated Sue Malek and ftebbie Irving of Elgin 6-1, 6-4, and came from behind to upend Mary Boland and Wendy Turski of Jacobs 3-6, 6-3, 7-6. Saturday's performance raised the season record for the Hutchinson-Stannell team to 7- 5, far and away the best on the team. The No. 2 doubles team of Meg Adams and Priscilla Kasprzyk, playing in that lofty position together for the first time this season, performed as well as the McHenry No. X team, also reaching the finals before losing. They lost the final match to Val Ahlman and Leslie Kriske of Dundee 6-4, 6-1. To reach the finals, they had to defeat Sue Jobey and Wendy Johnson of Wauconda 6-4, 6=2. Prior to the tournament, the Warriors traveled to Libertyville for a match, but lost 5-0. A back injury has forced Barb Kuna to sit out the rest of the tennis season. She had played, at various times this season, No. 1 singles, No. 2 singles, and doubles. Connie LeLeux is also out. Thus, coachBarb Popovich is somewhat shorthanded as the season moves into the homestretch. The Warriors were scheduled to host Marian Central Wednesday afternoon and were to play at Mundelein Thursday. Next week, McHenry is at AntiQch Monday, and closes out the regular season at Crystal Lake Tuesday. The state district tournament is scheduled for next Saturday at Crystal Lake. V ARE YOU MOVING?
