DECEMBER 2. 1#77 Kenneth Morrisette of 8449 Ravenswood, Wauwatosa, Wis., was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident in a crash that sent this car, driven by Margaret Keisey, 2818 Wooded lane, McHenry, into the ditch. The crash occurred about 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Front and Lillian street. Morrisette was driving behind the Keisey car, which stopped for traffic before turning left. Ms. Keisey told police she saw the station wagon approaching and had her turn signal on. Morrisette said he saw the other driver start forward after stopping but noted no directional signal in operation. Tollifson told police he misunderstood the other driver's intentions about stopping and slid into the rear. Damage to each vehicle was estimated at $150. Police issued Tollifson a traffic citation for failing to reduce speed to avoid an ac­ cident. According to the McHenry County Sheriff's department, cars driven by Francis R. Hannelitz, 3403 Venice avenue, McHenry. and by Lloyd H. Ladd, Gilmer road. Round Lake, collided on Route 120 near Hill road, at 6:45 a.m. Nov. 29. No injuries were reported. Hannelitz said he was westbound at 30 mph. near Hill when he saw the other car stopped for a left turn, and he was unable to stop in time. Deputies ticketed Hannelitz for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Damage to vehicles was estimated as $400 for Hannelitz and $250 for Ladd. Cars driven by Margaret L. Granath. 1313 N. Meadow lane, McHenry. and by Ellen V. Kidd, 2423 Beachside road, McHenry. collided on Beachside at the Orchard Way intersection Nov. 29, the Sheriff's department reported. No injuries were indicated. Ms. Granath told in­ vestigators she was trying to stop at the intersection, but was unable to do so due to road conditions. So instead of going in the ditch she then tried to turn left. When her car crossed into the other lane, it was hit in the side by the Kidd vehicle. Ms. Kidd, driving in the opposite direction, said that when she reached the in­ tersection, the other car made a left turn right in front of her. No tickets were issued. Two motorists were injured and a car was demolished in a collision at 4820 W. Route 120 Monday at 7:29 p.m., McHenry police reported. Karl D. Blom told police he was westbound on Route 120 in the inside lane at less than 50 mph. when he saw Morelock make a left turn across the highway in front of him. Blom said he braked, fishtailed and then hit the rear of the Morelock pickup truck with his car. A witness claimed that Blom was more likely driving at a speed of 60 to 70. Police issued Blom a ticket for driving too fast for conditions. Damage to the vehicles were estimated as total for Blom and $1,500 for Morelock. A motorist skidded off Route 31 north dP McHenry at 1:38 p.m. Monday after sliding on the icy curve near School road, the McHenry County Sheriff's department reported. Margaret A. Lowe, 124 S. I^ancaster. Mt. Prospect, was slightly injured and her car sustained $450 in damages as a result. She said she was driving south on the highway and her car started to skid to the right as she rounded the curve. She was unable to regain control and the vehicle went straight ahead between the tangent School road and highway. A stop sign was also knocked down in the crash. A Woodstock man damaged his car when it ran off the curve on Martin road, north of Route 120 west of McHenry, Nov. 28, but no injuries were reported. William A. Kotz, 944 Carol street. Woodstock, told deputies he was driving south around the clirve when his vehicle skidded and slid off into the ditch. His vehicle also hit a road sign. Damage was estimated to be less than $100. Deaths WILLIAM COLMAN Former McHenry resident, William Colman, died Friday, Nov. 25, at Phoenix, Ariz., at the age of 55. He had made his home at 8901 N. 35th street, Phoenix. Among survivors are his wife, Elaine (Langren); sons, David, Robert, Danny, Tom­ my, and Michael; and daughters, Kathy and Christy. Funeral services and in­ terment took place in Phoenix, Ariz. HELEN V. MODEK Mrs. Helen V. Moder, 60, of 7417 Mohawk drive. Wonder Lake, died Thursday, Dec. 1, at her home. Among survivors is her husband, Henry, of Wonder Lake. Arrangements at Halm's Wonder Lake funeral home were incomplete at press time. Y FORGE C -hristmas Snowmobile Mishap Injures McHenry Girls Two McHenry girls were hurt in a snowmobile accident in Petersen park at 6:51 p.m. Tuesday, according to the McHenry police. Officers identified the injured as Terry L. Barber, 18, 4706 Parkview, and her passenger, Nanette M. Carlson, 17, 1601 N. Riverside drive. Both were transported by the McHenry Rescue squad to the McHenry hospital. Officers said the snowmobile and occupants hit a cable stretched between the parking lot and the baseball field. Miss Barber told police she was driving through Petersen park, had crossed over the railroad track from Lakeland park, and was traveling at 30 to :i5 mph. when she drove through the cable, spilling her from the vehicle. Police noted that charges against the operator are pending. Offer Absenteo Ballots For Tax Referendum Doc. 23 - Anyone wishing to vote in the McHenry high school tax rate referendum, but who will be unable to cast a ballot in person Dec. 23, may apply for an absentee ballot at the office of the superintendent of schools, 3926 W. Main street, McHenry, between 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Dec. 18 at 4 p.m. is the last day and time to make ap­ plication by mail for absentee ballots. Dec. 22 at 4 p.m. is the time to make application for absentee ballots in person. The absentee voter must be a legal voter. Certain registered voters presently living in the precinct are permitted to vote by absentee ballot; A. Voters expecting to be absent from the County of Residency on election day. B. Voters unable to be present at the polls because of a physical incapacity. C. Voters observing a religious holiday who are unable to be present at the polls because of the tenets of their religion. SECOND BURGLARY SOLVED IN BREAI^IN INVESTIGATION (Continued from page 1)' believed to be missing from the coin box. - A burglary was discovered at the home of Carl Ames, 3904 Pitzen road, McHenry, at 6 p.m. Nov. 22. Ames said the break-in could have occurred during the previous week because the entry was not noticed until someone saw a cut in a rear window screen. Missing from the home were a 12 gauge Remington shotgun nd a green canvas back pack loaded with camping gear. Everything else seemed to be in order, Ames said. Someone went for bigger loot in a theft reported in Wonder Lake at E. Lake Shore drive and Beach road. Found missing there was a one-ton chain hoist which was suspended from a tree at that address for lifting barrels used in oiling roads in the subdivision. The theft was reported by Marvin Kruger, Genoa City, Wis., who indicated that the incident had occurred shortly before 4 p.m. Earlier in the day employees at S&S , Septic Service, 7212 Barnard Mill road, Wonder Lake, found that some tools had been taken from their building. Entry was gained by cutting plastic coverings on a window. Missing were chain sawbolt cutters and assorted hand tools. A rock throwing incident was reported in the McHenry area last week, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's department. About twenty students presently belong to art club with membership open to anyone interested. An annual field trip to the Chicago Art Museum culminates the year's activities. Art club members take a day to enjoy and learn from the great artists of the world. Under the sponsorship of Mrs. Winkel, Mr. Klopfenstein and Mr. Clayton, McHenry's young artists have exciting learning experiences open to them through the activities of this club.
