A & E VACUUM CLEANER Sale of Most Brands BAGS - PARTS - SERVICE for all makes of Domestic ft Industrial n--» plete reversal of accepted practices. This is the case with the Helping Paws organization and its experienced and dedicated personnel. Here's their innovative idea for sheltering stray, abandoned, and unwanted animals who are potentially adoptable pets - build a "no kill, no cage" shelter as a haven for a per centage of the unfortunate animals destined to die. The situation is grim; it's a true emergency! The conventional shelter plans of other humane societies are not ideal, and they are the first to agree. These existing facilities are no more than glorified, clean, kind, holding pounds. Limited in scope they are not always able to do the best for their "charges". They contain cages for cats and dogs, and the animals are constantly upset with the continuous viewing by the public. Well- meaning visitors will get them excited, then walk away and leave them. The constant upheaval causes cats to become ill and dogs to be emotionally drained. Compare the animals placed in HP foster homes with the others. The animal with the benefits of a home environment is a better adjusted, healthier, and cer tainly happier animal. The cage is no more the natural habitat of the dog and cat that it is of the human being. Rough draft plans for a "no kill, no cage" facility have been drawn and submitted to HP board members for scrutiny and changes. The shelter would be a first of its kind and could prove to be a model for other humane agencies. Named the Helping Paws Pet lodge it would offer something close to home environment. One hundred or more animals could be housed by the facility at one time and operating costs would be kept to a minimum. Plans include an examination, grooming, and isolation room for incoming animals, and much, much more. Once the design has been modified and approved by the board, it will be ready for the architect. We hope the "angels" are waiting in the wings. Ten acres of land, and the building, would cost at least $80,000. Actually to go into operation as it should be, the figure is more like $150,000. Staggering sums, yes, but in time it could pay for itself. Plans for the facility include a specialty shop crammed with appealing and useful pet- related items. HP also has a patent in the works for an unique toast spread that should be a great fund-raiser. But the project can't get under way without the assistance of that generous someone or several someones with the means and the desire to give to this cause. If you are such a "someone" please answer the pie?. Benefactors will be given the plans and access to HP books and policies.
