When the Fairy of Christmas Kindness looks in on the little groups, she sees their dilemma and decides to reward the hard-working little family. Calling on her trusty band of woodland elves, she and they sprinkle the magic of Christ mas throughout the little cobbler shop, and soon the wonderful shoes, boots and dippers they make bring in hilarious and glamourous visitors to buy these items. A haughty duchess, a baker and his boy and none other than dear old Santa Claus himself pop in to buy the gorgeous new shoes. Of course, where the shoes come from is a mystery to the family, and as they begin to prosper, they decide to discover who their kind benefactors are, and so the ballet comes to a surprising and joyful conclusion. This enchanting Brothers Grimm tale features many of the B.D.T. adult principal dancers, as well as some performers new to the company, and is the dancers' Christmas present to all those who love a touch of whimsy and childhood imagination in their lives. For those who have long treasured the beauty of pure classical ballet, By the Beautiful Danube is the company's offering in a lyrical, dreamy mood with the exquisite Strauss music. Featuring the company's principal dancers, the five young women perform on pointe and in drifts of chiffon and silk, making the danube piece a perfect offering for the seasoned concert-goer, as well as for the first time visitor to the ballet. Jazz Kaleidoscope is a colorful and exciting jazz piece set to the music of Cfcuck Mangione, and reflecting the trends and trials of coming of age in the turbulent '70's. This jazz presentation pulses with the vibrancy of a carefully wrought modern work. The B.D.T.'s Christmas concert is an enchanting holiday package with something for everyone, and with something a little bit more, too! After the concert, the audience is invited to attend a holiday reception where they can "meet the dancers," enjoy some refreshments and join the cast in dancing around the Christmas tree.
