On The Sidelines -yOkfcRobbm . Congratulations to Cindy Beyer on her selection to the North Suburban All Conference Volleyball team. The young lady was in select company, as the conference was loaded with fine teams and players this past season, litis has to be a plus factor for the team, players and coaches at McHenry. It may not be too long, before the gals will have a championship trophy to snow off in tne local schools. Hie postponed game between the Warriors and Crown will be made up on Tuesday Feb. 21st at McHenry. With so many school activities taking place, it was almost an impossible situation to set the game scheduled. This is one neason why school officials take great care before calling a game off. With weather conditions as they were last Friday, we believe it was the only action to take upon the part of both schools. You will notice that the North Suburban the past two have been scheduling games on Tuesday. The main is to get away from the doubleheader weekends. It works a hardship on the players especially if they hold down a part time job on Saturday. Another reason and a very valid one, is that attendance is generally down on Saturday night, unless you happen to have an exceptional team. Wrestling matches have been held on week nights in the past, and there has been no major concern of lack of school attendance the foll( day. If attendance does show a decline, there is a remedy. If the participant does not attend school on Wednesday,"he will not be allowed to play on Friday. It has worked at other schoolds, and I am sure that McHenry will have no problem regarding this matter. Marty Sobczak is taking his Warriors to Harvard tonight to the tough Harvard tourney. Last year the Warriors finished 12th. It is good experience for the squad, as they will meet some of the better teams in this part of the state. I twill be a rough two days and all Warrior fans are wishing Marty and the team the best of luck. Ken Ludwig will take his Warriors to Lake Forest tonight for a North Suburban conference game. The Scouts are always tough at home, and the Warriors will have their hands full tonight. On Tuesday Warrior fans will get their first glimpse of the Warriors at home. Playing only one game at home before the Christmas holidays, is not what I would call a good situation. Of course we could be like U.C.L.A. which plays its first eleven games at home. With all your Christmas shopping done by that time, drop out to West Campus and greet the Warriors for the first time this year. The I.H.S.A. is catching a lot of flack these days. A revolution among the Suburban schools is taking place. Sixteen conferences including schools from Kankakee to McHenry are taking part in this revolt This group wants to increase the Legislative Commission from 17 to 21 members, and the Board of Directors from six to seven. They fed that the downstate schools which are much smaller in enrollment are having too much to say about the I.H.S.A. To date these sixteen conference representatives have been shot down by the I.H.S.A. There are rumors afloat that this group will drop out of the I.H.S.A. and form their own association. The major complaint is that downstate schools who do not have sports such as swimming and gymnastics to name a few, have a great deal of control over the governing of these activities. Also girls athletics come into the picture. Some downstate schools have only a few activities for their gals, while the larger suburban schools have many. This group may lost out altogether, but you can bet the administrators will go down fighting for their cause. - .• ••••' fel'Vc,.-•"' v - « Grapplers Team Enter 16 * • „ • -y " Coach Marty Sobczak will take his "Rassling Warriors" to Harvard tonight to compete in the Harvard 16 team tour- t ney. UillWQflK the professional do-it-yourself carpet cleaning system along with Crystal Lake a power in the North Suburban this year will also compete. A Class A state ranked team, Stillman Valley, will try and make some waves among the bigger schools. Others com peting along with the host, are the Warriors, Rockford Boylan, Hoffman Estates, Rochelle, Woodstock, West Aurora, Harlem of Rockford, Belvidere, Grayslake, Sycamore, and Hononegah of Rockton. Matches begin tonight at 6 p.m. Tomorrow they begin at 10 a.m. with the finals and con solations beginning at 6:30 p.m. The McHenry high Warriors travel to Lake Forest tonight to take on the Scouts in a North Suburban encounter. The Scouts under second year coach Hal Wertich are smarting from two defeats last weekend. The North Chicago Warhawks stung the Scouts 79 to 58 on Friday, and on Saturday they lost to Niles North 69 to 62. The Scouts are minus two all conference players from a year ago Tom Trkla, the leading scorer in the North Suburban last year and guard Jami£ McWeeney Leading the Lake Forest five this season is John Grab a 6'2" senior, along with another senior 6'0" Craig Clemns. Also seniors Brian Hanrahan a 6'2" forward and Mark Newman 6'0" guard. Rounding out the starting team is junior Roy Bickelhaupt a 6'3" center. The Scouts are 1 and 1 in the con ference, an were picked to finish in the top three this season. The Warriors fresh from a win over long time foe Grant, will be looking for their first conference win of the season. In their only encounter they lost to Crystal Lake 45 to 40 two weeks ago. The Warriors have shown improvement during the early stages of the season, and if they can cut down on their mistakes, should be a contender in the North Suburban this season. MUSTANGS HERE TUESDAY As Coach Ludwig commented last week "The good Lord willing, we will have a home game before Christmas", the Mundelein Mustangs will be here Tuesday night for a conference game. Later on in the season, the Warriors travel to Mun delein for another Tuesday night game. This had to be a plus factor for all concerned.
