M c H e n r y c o u n t y Homemakers Extension association council held its annual Christmas party and meeting recently at the home of Mrs. Marge Marlowe of Huntley, 111. A business meeting was held during the morning hours of the same day with Helen Heider presiding in the absence of President Connie Steffen. After various reports were read, Mary Kynell was ap­ pointed chairman of the nominating committee and will be contacting members to fill seven vacancies for the coming year. Carolyn Steck reminded all members about saving the United States cancelled stamps and bringing them to the office or to any member of the Homemakers Extension association. These stamps are offered overseas for food for the starving children fund. Nancy Moore, extension home economist, presented the council with a chart on the recent breast cancer screening that was sponsored by the association. One hundred and seventy-seven women par­ ticipated in the program. The membership of the Homemakers Extension association sincerely hopes that they have been of some benefit to those who took part. The afternoon meeting was the time of the Christmas party and a gift exchange, with George Young, former agriculture extension adviser, as a guest of honor. As a farewell gesture, the council members invited him to join the party. A pot luck luncheon was served with each member bringing a dish to pass. For dessert, a cookie and candy exchange was held and each member made her favorite and also brought along the recipe. These recipes will be printed and given to the Homemakers Extensions associations members. The January meeting will be held Jan. 9. All council mem­ bers and advisory members are asked to attend. All units who do not have advisory representatives at these meetings are asked to send them as the meetings will be of more interest to units with their own representation. Parent Preparation Classes Begin Jan. 2 Bert Hanson, executive director of Memorial Hospital for McHenry County, has an­ nounced prospective mothers and fathers are invited to the two sessions of "Preparation for Parenthood" beginning Monday evening, Jan. 2. Second session will be Monday, Jan. 9. Both classes will start at 8 p.m. and are held in the hospital d; .inp room "In previous fathers-to-be have attended in addition to the prospective mothers. We are very pleased with the - interest in this program," Hanson said. The program is presented by Memorial Hospital for McHenry County in cooperation with members of the medical staff and the hospital staff. Each session will include movies and talks, and no charge of any kind is in­ volved. The films are "Prenatal Care" and "Labor and Delivery". A member of the medical staff will lead the discussion on prenatal and on labor and delivery at both the Jan. 2 and 9sessions. Mrs. Fran Schlopp, R.N., Obstetrical supervisor, will take part in the- program. Included in the class schedule is a tour of the hospital's maternity depart­ ment.
