INC. P.O. BOX 143 McHCNtV.aL.0MM 815/385-1771 A CHRISTMAS GUEST By Erika Frey This little face, squinting at the camera, with the beautiful Beagle markings belongs to "Marcy". She is six months old. In that short time, she has already coped with enough problems to last her a lifetime. The first few weeks of her life must have been happy. She had her mother to feed and protect her and litter mates to play with. Then one day, she was sold or given away and she had to cope with the loss of her family. Unfortunately, the person who acquired her did not care enough for her safety to put a collar and leash on that fragile pup. Perhaps, with her Beagle curiosity, she wandered too far from her new home. Perhaps she was abandoned. She cannot tell us. One thing we do know. she had no idea how severely that powerful speeding machine could damage her. Hit and run. It's only a dog. (Does she feel pain any less?) Fifteen stitches and a steel pin to keep the bones in place while healing. The puppy needed a home with special care and lots of rest. The veterinarian, a friend of many years, who knows our weakness for Beagles, asked us to help. On arrival at the veterinary hospital we met our Christmas guest. A skinny little Beagle pup, standing unsurely on three wobbly legs. She looked pathetic and vulnerable, but true to her friendly Beagle nature, the tail wagged as much as that steel pin would The McHenry Plaindealer Established 1*75 3tl2 West Elm Street Phon. 3*5-0170 McHenry. Bundled securely in a pink blanket we brought her home. Marcy is coming along just fine. She hobbles and wobbles and is determined to try and keep up with our three spoiled dogs, who have shown her all the mischief she can get into in her new surroundigns.
