Once more, th' time is nere t' take account o' th' year we've just come through, try t' make amends f r the* comin' months, an' pray that this world may aeeth'endo' 1978, wi' peace, f'r all mankind, throughout this (sphere. Sad things take place, in our i own land, an' all o'er th' globe, it seems. 3V Devff spirit tales hold o' humans, an' leads 'em t' destroy others, and nobody may be free o' th' fear that it may strike loved ones. Ne'er in me lifetime, has there been so much crime, so taany young folks involved in heinous evil doin's. So many facets t' th' breakdown o' social structure, make it more, an' more difficult t' correct th' problems. There's one thing a lackin', that makes it easier f'r th' evil t' develop. That is, th' lack o' stringent disciplinary measures, in th' home, educational centers, from kindergarten through college, in our court systems, an' in society in general. Th' old adage, "Spare th' rod an' spoil th' child," has moretl^pth 'n th' words imply. It doesn't mean, necessarily, that spankin' th' young il take care o' his morals an' deportment f'r th' rest o' his life. Til' words apply t' us all. Proper discipline c'n make punishment unnecessary. Rules o' society, law 'n order, is scorned by folks who find they c'n get away wi' bein' disobedient to 'em. Honesty among those in control o' u n i o n s , c h a r - i t a b l e organizations, welfare programs, business, an' in th' most important influence in our lives, our government, has disappeared. Integrity takes a back seat when material gain enters th' picture. Seems like man '11 sell his soul f'r th' almighty dollar, these days. It's time t' take heed o' past mistakes. It's time t' bring The National organization of the American Legion and American Leg'on auxiliary have announced a special project on energy conservation. These organizations have recognized the importance of educating the public on energy conservation and the need for immediate action. Margaret Hartung of McHenry Unit No. 491, American Legion auxiliary has recently been appointed chairman of the Energy back some o' th' regard f'r human-kind that our forefathers brought forth in th' early days o' this nation. We've just celebrated th' annual festive season, in honor o' Jesus Christ. Let us not put aside th' real meanin' o' His life. Let us put into practice th' love f'r good, an' strike out th' evil, which has taken o'er societies, all o'er th' worM Only th' people c'n accomplish it. Happy New Year. Church Women Gather For Worship-Brunch The annual Communion service and Christmas brunch of the Methodist Women of the First United Methodist church was held Thursday, Dec. 15, beginning at 10 a.m. The members of the Mount Hope and the McHenry United Methodist Women met in the sanctuary for the service, which was opened by President Patricia Esposito with the call to worship, followed by the singing of "Joy to the World" and gospel reading. Pastor Ruth Wickersham's meditation "The Hazards of Being a Shepherd" was most interesting and inspiring. After the prayers of con fession and assurance, passing of the pence,' and prayer of f ' • * t h a n k s g i v i n g , P a s t o r Wickersham served the imunion, assisted by the residents of both U.M.W. groups. "The First Noel" was then sung, followed by the benediction. The ladies then retired to the Christmas brunch and enjoyed becoming acquainted with the hope there will soon be more of these group meetings. There was no formal meeting, and no buisness transacted.
