It depends on the type of paint job you desire. The three basic quality grades are good, better, best. The best grade brush or roller will pick up the most paint, enabling you to complete the job more quickly and with less fatigue. No applicator manufac­ turer can guarantee one-coat coverage on every job (that depends on the type of painter you are), but the best grade applicator offers the best opportunity to do a pro­ fessional job with one coat. High grade pays Even more important, the best quality applicator pro­ vides the most professional looking finish of all the grades, even with only aver­ age quality paint. With top quality paints. which more and more con­ sumers are using, only the best grade applicator should be used; a cheap tool often produces poor results even with the most expensive paints. • Q. I try to save my paint brushes, but even after care­ fully cleaning them, the bris­ tles tend to stick together and dry out in bad shape. A. After you've cleaned the brush according to the manufacturer's instructions, run a comb through it to straighten out and separate the bristles. Proper finish On brushes used in oil base paints, put a few drops of lin­ seed oil on the bristles.
