To Last Through Easter Chris Smith When the Easter Bunny buys his 1978 eggs, they will cost him less than last year's, says University of Illinois Extension economist, Tom Elam. Responding to good profits in 1977, egg producers have boosted production the past few months. Larger supplies have led to lower prices. Egg markets often see wide price swings, notes Elam. One reason is that retailers routinely use low egg prices to draw customers. But more fundamentally, consumers tend to use about the same number of eggg, regardless of price. When egg supplies are up, prices take a large drop to move the larger output. Retail egg prices are currently about 20 cents less than last year's or 55 to 75 cents a dozen. Yet egg output is only a few percent larger. At these lower prices egg producers are losing money, signaling a future drop in egg output. Reductions in egg production require reduced numbers of laying hens. Because egg output has in creased recently, much of the laying flock is comparatively young. And because producers are reluctant to cull these younger birds, continues Elam, egg output may remain high for most of 1978. By next Easter, egg production will likely be reduced from 1978 levels. A year from now consumers will see higher egg prices, con cludes Elam. Dressing Five good ways to dress a slim potato salad are tomato juice with a hint of herbs, vinaigrette dressing with vinegar and a dash of oil. mustard and a dab of sour cream, herb-dressed yogurt or a splash of dry white wine. Christer Nik lesson Shares Swedish Homeland Customs Snow and cold did not keep members of the Friendship club away - there were thirty- six members and six guests in attendance when Pastor Ralph Smith offered grace at the February club potluck dinner. After President Harold Wildhagen called the meeting to order, Christer Niklesson was introduced by vice- president Herbert Rose as speaker for the evening. During a most enjoyable program, he shared with members pictures of his homeland, telling that Goteborg has a population of some 500,000 people, and the weather there much better than he has been experiencing here in McHenry. His pictures were beautiful and his narration most interesting. He very graciously answered the many, many questions, and all learned a great deal about Christer and Sweden. All en joyed visiting with this fine young man. President Wildhagen had introduced the guests, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Walkington of Ringwood, Christer Niklesson of Goteborg, Sweden, who is making his home with the Walkington's while in McHenry, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Collins, and Mrs. Ann Sabie; all of whom received a very warm welcome. Mrs. Mary Rose had the meditations, part of which were read from Helen Steinter Rice's book ••Meditations", the balance from the Bible. Her devotions were very interesting and inspirational. The minutes of the January meeting, and the treasurer's report were read; both of which were approved and accepted. Everyone was happv to see Lonah Wendland back. She recently had surgery and acknowledged the many cards, prayers and visits she had received from members. Harold Wildhagen received appreciation from everyone for putting up storm windows around the church. Happy Birthday and Happy An- niversay were sung to those celebrating these events at this time. 1* _ The next Friendship club potluck dinner and meeting will be Saturday, March 11 at the church at 6 p.m., when Pastor and Mrs. Smith will be in charge of the program.
