Q. I'd like to ask you a disturbing personal question. As a single college student from a rural community, now living in an urban area, I have been exposed to a variety of young single gentlemen. Each possesses a characteristic such as personality trait, goals in * life, father-image or husband-image, that one has always dreamed of her marriage partner to possess. Should one judge on future compatibility, or present infatuation (love), or just let them all slip by and thus have a lot less worries and problems? In other words, how do you know who is the lucky one? A. To the present moment, on the basis of your question, it would seem that you have not met anyone whom you love. So, you are very smart in letting them all go by. One of these days, however, you may meet a young man and you will know that you love him and that he loves you. And that could be your lucky moment. But when that time comes be dead sure that your luck will hold out And if you feel sure, think positively, go into it honestly, and you can make it hold out forever. In recent years the fire service has ,seen the in­ troduction of the most significant devices ever for the * detection of fire. These devices which monitor the air around them are commonly called smoke detectors. Francis J. Murphy, director of the Fire Prevention bureau of the Chicago Fire department, states, "smoke detectors are a most economical way of in­ creasing fire protection many fold." : ' There are two types of smoke detectors now on the market. One type works roughly on the same principle as an electric eye such as is used to operate some elevator doors. These are called photo electric detectors. Smoke • reaching a pre­ determined density triggers the electric system that sounds the alarm. The other type of smoke detector utilizes a small radiation source with a finely balanced electric circuit. These are called ionization type smoke detectors. Some units operate on regular house current and some on battery power. Because smoke detectors are of greatest value when everyone is asleep, the National Safety council recommends the prime location for smoke detectors' should be in the area or hallway immediately outside each sleeping area. All bedroom doors should be kept closed during time of sleeping whether or not detectors are installed. Finally, we must emphasize that detectors are only part of the answer to the fire safety problem. Family evacuation plans, including alternate routes if the usual ones are impossible, should be carefully laid out and periodically practiced. LAKE REGION YMCA NEWS Clean Streams Illinois Clean Streams month is May this year and the Illinois Department of conservation and Environmental Protection agency are urging Illinois citizens and local groups to sponsor stream clean-ups and community workshops on water pollution. You must not feel guilty if you do not verbally witness to your faith. The most effective form of witnessing isn't what you say, but what you are. Be such a radiant, happy, dedicated Christian that by your very demeanor, your actions and your loving, caring spirit people will say, "That person knows Jesus."
