Lakemoor Margaret Karas Lilymoor 385-4934 Loose Change Remains After Vegas Weekend Lilyann Baker, as a guest of her mother, spent a weekend at Las Vegas, the city noted for its conservation of electricity. Lilyann is not too keen on airplane travel, so being hung up in jet streams did not add to her feeling of comfort and safety. Being a first time visitor to "the" entertainment center, Lilyann was amazed at the slot machines everywhere, in cluding the bathrooms; the men carrying purses (the money won is often carried in cups, which men place in their companion's purses, which therefore become too heavy for the ladies to carry); the long pink mink coat at one of the specialty shops; Caesar's Palace complete with the barge * IB I" MUter-frfetting from the movie Cleopatra; and seeing a play at 2:30 in the morning, the only time tickets were available. What sights were seen and remembered. Lilyann came home with 31 cents and several bus tokens, to find her home well taken care of by daughter Tricia, who coerced Beth, Billy and April to help her. Brian was happy to have his household complete again so he, too, could get some well deserved rest. BIRTHDAYS Belated birthday wishes go to Walter O'Brien's mother, Eilene, on her seventy-eighth birthdate, May 6. Hope you had a beautiful day, and that Wally and Joan helped you blow out the candles. Stan Zabroski is celebrating his day May 12. Richard Hyatt, Lakemoor president, adds another year May 15. The seventeenth of May is shared by Mary Wilson and Les Nejedly. Birthdays are fun, just forget the number of years! GET WELL WISHES To our favorite No. 1 daugher, Maggie Dunnagan, who was rushed to emergency; to Louise Hipwell with her health problems; to Carl Stromley recuperating from back surgery; to Alyce and Andreas Kowal who haven't been feeling too great; to Ruth Freeman who is down for the first time in years. May you all experience the healing blanket of God's love. Feeling better are Walter Martinson who is now home recuperating, and Curt Freeman who was down sick a week before Ruth;. Little Missy Mumma now has her cast off, and can again wear shoes and socks. Did you save her cast for a wall hanging, Mama Mum ma? Also surviving are a son and daughter, four granddaughters and six great grandchildren. L.L.L.L Birthdays were celebrated by all the ladies last Wednesday with a chicken dinner served at their regular meeting place. Each lady, on her birthday, would translate years of life into pennies, and, put that amount in a special birthday fund for the communal party. Extras were donated by various ladies, including the punch (not spiked) made by Connie O'Rourke. After the short business meeting, the fun evening was completed with the playing of bunco. Lu Gravenstuk actually won a first prize, which has only happened about once before. Joan Delatorre won second; Julia Kraus, third; and Connie O'Rourke, fourth. Marie Hyatt, mother of this week's birthday boy, was the lucky booby prize winner. Happy birthday, ladies, and may you have many more in such happy fellowship. GARBAGE TIME Who has been using the empty lot on Crestwood and North avenues as a private garbage dump? The various cans and bottles found on the roadsides aren't bad enough. Now the garbage is being dumped in bags. A call to the shriff's office with a license number of the offenders will help to keep the area clean in the future. LIBRARY STORY Preventative medicine, how to stay well all the time, is of such importance to all of us these days of high medical costs. "The Family Book of Preventative Medicine" by Dr. Benjamin Miller gives much sage advice on how to treat the body you know best--your own. How many prescription drugs are you taking? Do you know how they ineract with each other? ."The Essential Guide to Prescription Drugs", what you need to know for safe drug use, by Dr. James Long, will help you to understand what the prescription is sup posed to do, when not to take a particular drug, and what combinations can even be fatal. Both of these books and other medical guides are at the McHenry Nunda Library on Lily Lake road. Call 385-6303 afternoons for service hours or other information. MOTHER'S DAY THOUGHTS Lu Gravenstuk is very happy, about the whole deal of being a mother of two, a grandmother of four, and a great grand mother of eight. And all close by to spend holidays and bir thdays together. What a blessing that is. Remember to be kind to your web-footed friends, for a duck may be somebody's mother... The enthusiasm of the parents and friends of the performers in the audience was equaled by the gymnasts themselves who encouraged and cheered each of the acts performed by their fellow athletes. P.E. teacher, Jayne Mc Millan, took special pride in her students, commenting that only a few months ago, most of them didn't even know how to turn a cartwheel. She praised their hard work, including setting up the gym and decorating it with the art work of teacher Karen Six's students in a very short time because of a last minute decision to have the circus inside, rather than out on the tennis courts, due to the bad weather. In turn, her students 728-0267 presented Jayne with a corsage and a bouquet of flowers as a small token of recognition of what she has done for each of them.
