In the Crown game, Chris Connell went 5 for 5 for a perfect day at the plate. Vicky Kopsell and Deb Freeland each had a home run in the game. Pitcher Nancy Glick had 4 hits as the Warrior gals totaled 25 hits for the day. In the loss to Zion, Sharon Smith had four hits for the day and Annette Dercole with 2 homers and Nancy Glick with 1 added to the cause. Chris Connell had another good day at the plate with 3 hits in four tries. The frosh-soph likewise split a pair, beating Crown 33 to 7 and losing to Zion 7 to 2. We wish all our sportspeople success. 4-H NEWS If the weather ever becomes warm enough for pleasant, sunny spring and summer days, we in the village will be able to enjoy fun and games at Griswold Lake. We recognize the industrious, hard-working efforts of the members of the 4- Aces 4-H club. Working with rakes and shovels, hammer and nails, Elaine Ericson, Scott Fullmer, Barb and Cathy Grasser and Joe Mroz spent their time cleaning up the beach. We appreciate their thoughtfulness and will try to keep it clean and green. The 4-Aces participated in the "Share the Fun" contest for which they received an award. It was the first time that the club had joined this contest and they really did a good job. 4-H membership is opened to boys and girls from 8-19 who want to serve their community and have fun doing it. HAVE A NICE DAY PAY BY THE MILE State Revenue Department agents have begun checking to see that operators of semi­ trailer trucks, buses, and other commercial vehicles traveling on Illinois roads are registered with the state under a six- month-old law that requires them to pay state fuel tax on a mileage basis. Lake Forest won the meet with 109 points. McHenry Scoring Diane Peterson, 6th in High Jump. Sue Moulis, 4th in 2 mile. Judy Honning, 5th in 880 run. 880 Relay, 2nd: Diane Peterson, Judy Honning, Sue Haddick and Carrie Mortell. Carrie Mortell was 5th in the 220 and won the 440 with a new conference record of 1.00.4. With most of the girls un­ derclassmen, things look bright in the future for the girls track at McHenry High School. By Dick Rabbitt In what was termed to he the pitching dual of the season, wound up a one way sided win for Barry Paulsen of the Warriors. Paulsen and his counterpart Joe Dickinson of the ZeeBees had major league scouts from far and near watching their contest Saturday in the opening game of a doubleheader. The Warriors behind the one hit pitching of the "Bear" won the opener 5 to 0. The nightcap went to the hosts 6 to 3. Dickinson had earlier pitched 2 no hitters and a one hitter, and was billed the best in the North Suburban. That was until the Warriors arrived in Zion on Saturday morning. Ken Swanson and his crew put the ZeeBee hurler to the test, scoring 2 in the second on Adam's single, went to second on a wild pitch, and scored on an error when Jeff Meters reached second. Meyers later scored to make it Warriors 2 to 0. In the fourth Paulsen aided his own cause with a mighty 400 ft. homer over the cen- terfielder's head. More than one scout went to his notebook after that blast by Barry. From then on it was a breeze for the Warriors. The ZeeBees only hit was a slow infield roller in the opening inning. Barry struck out 7 and walked 4 in running his record to 7 and 0 and 5 and 0 in the North Suburban. Dickinson however, struck out 12 Warriors in his losing cause. After a big win in the opener a letdown is in order, and sure enough it happened to the Warriors. They could not jet untracked, although Tim Frantz went 3 for 3, the Warriors lost 6 to 3 running their record to 17 and 2 and 9 and 2 in the North Suburban, giving them a one game lead with just three to play. Saturday they host the Wildcats from Libertyville in what should be a whale of a doubleheader. Get your lawn work done early, and jot over to McCracken Field and see high school baseball at its best.
