Not usually. The Illinois Heart association warns that, in most cases, high blood pressure has no symptoms at all. The only way to determine if you are among the millions of Americans with high blood pressure is to have your pressure checked. A simple, painless test can determine whether or not your pressure is up. If it is, don't let it get you down. High blood pressure usually can be con trolled by following your doctor's advice on medication and diet. > High blood pressure, un detected and untreated, can lead to stroke, heart attack, and heart and kidney failure.. The tragedy is that many people fail to be tested, or once tested, fail to follow their doctor's recommendations. May is National High Blood Pressure month. Have your blood pressure checked and to round out your risk reduction program: eat well-balanced, low-cholesterol, low-fat meals; don't smoke cigarettes; maintain proper weight; and follow an exercise program outlined by your doctor. Remember, high blood pressure can be easily detected and effectively controlled. For more information on high blood pressure, contact the Illinois Heart association, listed in phone directories of most major cities. If there is no Heart association office near you, write the Illinois Heart Association, P.O. Box 2666, Springfield, 111., 62708. What Is A Radical?
