Aaron wore the 2- piece knit outfit of white with blue trim worn by his older brother at his christening The son of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Haak of Crystal Lake was baptized during the 9:30 am service with the Rev. Eugene Wykle and Rev. Robert Baker officiating Attending as godparents were an aunt, Mrs. Evonne Wittig of New Hart­ ford, and Dave Sard of Roaelle. Family members and friends gathered at the home of the baby's parents for a buffet luncheon after the ceremony. Present were grandparents, Mr and Mrs John Bulthuis of Crystal Lake; Mr and Mrs Wilbur Haak of Wonder Lake; his great aunt and uncle Mr and Mrs Charles Brunckhorst of Crystal Lake; aunt and uncle. A recent meeting of the McHenry county Chapter of Birthright saw election of of­ ficers. The director is Mrs. Barb Svoboda; co-director, Mrs. Tina Gorski; recording secretary, Mrs. Connie Freund; with Mrs. Darlene Heim taking on the job of office secretary. The new treasurer is Mrs. Betty O'Brien. Other items on the agenda included a discussion on the necessity for a drive for more volunteers in all areas in order to be able to expand services. Some areas of service include manning the office pbont, providing shelter homes, typists, artists, and, of course, donations. It was also noted that proceeds from the annual rose sale held on Mothers day enabled Birthright to acquire a mud) needed filing cabinet. The guest speaker for die , evening was Attorney Leroy Welter. He spoke to those at­ tending on adoption laws and procedures. The McHenry county Chapter of Birthright has established a speakers bureau. Speakers are available to any organization interested in learning more about Birthright, an in­ ternational organization with a local McHenry county chapter. The chapter provides an emergency service to women who are pregnant and in need of help. Birthright believes that every woman has the right to give birth, and every baby has the right to be born. Since the chapter was established 7 months ago, as many as sixty women have been counseled and helped. For more information about obtaining a speaker for area groups, please contact Mrs Ronald (Barb) Svoboda, of McHenry or Mrs. Richard (Tina) Gorski of Wonder Lake. Recently attending the seventh annual Birthright International convention held in Cherry Hill, N.J. were the director and co-director of the local Birthright chapter, Mrs. Barb Svoboda and Mrs. Tina Gorski. Of special note was the fact that this was the tenth an­ niversary of the founding of Birthright. The convention was hosted by the Woodbury Birthright center which is the United States'* national headquarters The welcome was given by Louise Summerhill, founder of Birthright. The opening ad­ dress was given by George Guilfoyle, bishop of the diocese of Camden county. Various workshops were held throughout the weekend. Some of the subjects covered were media relations, abortion procedures and complications, funding, shelter homes, child abuse, and parenting. Some of the people attending included Denice Cocciolione, national director for the United States; Merrilyn DeGersigny, director of the three Birthright offices open in the republic of South Africa; Margaret White, the representative from the British Isles; busloads of Canadians, and represen­ tatives from every state in the nation. Pioneer Club Approves Years Schedule Of Social Activity At the July meeting. Program Chairman Robert Leonhardt presented the program for the coming year to members of the Pioneer club. August: a bus trip to a theatre in Racine and luncheon; September: a luncheon at Salvation Army camp in Camp Lake; October: a color tour in Wisconsin and luncheon; November: Thanksgiving Harvest dinner; Christmas shopping and luncheon Nov. 29; December Christmas party; January: speaker; February: Valentine party; March: of­ ficers election; and April: Spring luncheon and in­ stallation of officers. All favored and the program was approved. Following a lunch of bar­ becue and strawberries and ice cream, the meeting was called to order by President Nies. Guests were welcomed and new members were introduced including Gladys Lakke, Mildred Williams, Frank and Dorothy Ackland, Marian Erb and Minnie Kosta. President Nies acknowledged all who helped make the strawberry festival a success and for donations made. A letter was read from McHenry County Fair officials urging all senior citizens to enter arts, crafts, sewing, etc., and a letter from SCORE, Service Corporation of Retired Executives. A. report was given on members who are ill and cards were sent to Mary Stanek, Frances Slavin, Chester Schultz, Agnes May and Ann Wenclowski. Bob Leonhardt spoke on the help one can receive by attending Rules of the Road classes before renewing driver's license. These are free to senior citizens. The next meeting is Aug. 1. Committee members for that meeting are Mildred Williams, Bea and Emil Meier, Lola Slavin. Pena, Lake In The Hills Bus Tour To Rockford Time Museum July 20 A bus load of Senior Citizens went to Rockford Thursday, July 20, and were given a guided tour of the Time museum It was an interesting and informative walk through the history of timepieces The development of science and technology, art, and national styles of decoration are represented by some 1,500 pieces on display, including sundials, water clocks, fire clocks, sand timers, Chinese Pi, a Mayan Stelae and clocks and watches of all kinds and periods dating to 2000 B C on up to twentieth century atomic timepieces , To add to the pleasure of the day, they walked through Sinissippi flower garden and had a buffet lunch at Bishop'% cafeteria Senior Walk-In ( e n t e r Meals are served Monday through Friday at the McHenry Walk-In center beginning at 1145 a m Reservations must be made by 1:30 p.m the day before at 385-8260. JAMES JAY STAHL McHENRY NEWLYWEDS-Newlyweds James Jay and Kristine Marie (Kahl) Stahl are making their home in McHenry following their marriage Saturday, June 24, at St. Patrick's Catholic church. The vows uniting them as man and wife were repeated before the Rev. Edmund Petit during a 3 o'clock nuptial Mass. The bride to the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard J. Kahl of McHenry and the parents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stahl of Wonder Lake. The wedding reception was held at the McHenry Country club with 200 friends and relatives toasting the bridal couple. A honeymoon trip to the Bahamas was taken prior to residency in McHenry. Place squash into boiling salted water; boil 10 to IS minutes or until almost tender when pierced with fork. Remove from water; drain. In skillet, in 3 tablespoons hot oil, saute onions until golden; add chuck and brown. Add green pepper, 2 tea­ spoons seasoned salt, pepper, cayenne, oregano and garlic. Saute a few minutes, then add tomato sauce and olives; simmer, covered, 15 minutes. Cool slightly, stir in eggs. Preheat oven to 350 de­ grees. Cut thin slice from bot­ tom of each squash so it stands upright; sprinkle insides with seasoned salt. Stuff with meat mixture; cover with squash tops; arrange in greased shallow pan. Bake 1 hour. Let stand 15 minutes before cut­ ting in half. Serves 8. The filling makes enough to fill 8 to 12 individual small squash. Prepare as above; bake 30 minutes.
