The deceased was born March 19,1912, in McHenry, the son of William and Caroline Rothermel Schreiner. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Willis, in 1973. There was no visitation. Mr. Schreiner ieft no survivors. A funeral Mass was offered Monday morning at St. Mary's church with interment in the church cemetery. Arrangements were made by the George R. Just en and Son funeral home. BERTHA MULHERIN A former Lakeland Park resident, Mrs. Bertha Mulherin, 84, died Thursday, Aug. 5. Arrangements were made by the George R. J us ten and Son funeral home. BURDETTE L. BETHEL Burdette L. Bethel, 73, 4616 Front Royal, died at Lutheran General hospital, Park Ridge, Aug. 5. He was born April 28, 1905, in Davenport, la., the son of Oscar and Vera Baker Bethel. A former Chicago resident, he was a purchasing manager in electronics. His survivors include his wife, Alice nee Stake; three sons, William of West Springfield, Mass., Robert of Crystal Lake, and Richard, Delavan, Wis.; his mother Vera Cook of McHenry ; and eight grandchildren. Visitation was held Monday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the George R. J us ten funeral home where services were held Tuesday morning at 10 a.m., with Father Edmund Petit officiating, interment was in Cedar Park cemetery, Chicago. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer society. JAMES R. BALL. SR. James R. Ball, Sr., 79, of 602 N. Devonshire court, McHenry, was dead on arrival at McHenry hospital, Friday, Aug. 4. Mr. Ball was born Aug. 30, 1898 in Chicago, the son of Fredrick and Erminie Dickenson Ball. Moving from Buffalo Grove, Mr. Ball had lived here about one and one-half years. He was a retired manufacturing representative for Ball Engineering Co., formerly of Chicago. The deceased was a veteran and a member of Edison Park Post No. 541 of the American Legion >n Chicago and a thirty ~ third degree Mason of Park Ridge Lodge No. 988, A.F.4A.M. Among his survivors are his wife, Agnes Simpson Ball, whom he married in 1938 in Chicago; a son, James R. Ball, Jr., of McHenry; two grand­ children Susan and Michael Frey of McHenry; one brother, George W. Ball, Scottsdale, Ariz. A brother Fredrich, preceded him in death. Visitation was scheduled for Monday from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Peter M. Justen and Son funeral home where last rites were conducted by Rev. Arthur M Knudsen of McHenry on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. JUNE NOVAK Memorial services will be Tield Aug. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Memorial church, 4916 W. 107th street, Oak Lawn, for June Novak, nee Tanner, who died July 9 in Cedar Creek, Mo. Mrs. Novak was born Jan. 25, 1931 in Evergreen Park. She lived in Wonder Lake from 1960 until 1976 when the family moved to Missouri. Young Pianist Wins Senior Talent Contest Nicholas Psvkovic, 15-year- old Woodstock pianist, parlayed impressive piano renditions of two Chopin classics to win the Senior division of the McHenry County fair's Talent contest last weekend. First in the competition for the Junior division-under 15 years of age-were two costumed folk dancers from Cary who performed Tyrolean dances before an attentive audience. The duo included Kamren Jones, 12, and Joy Anderson, 11. Other Senior division winners included Kelee Flannery and Judy Painter, Crystal Lake folk singers, second; and the Ryder Force band featuring Chris Gibson, Mark Philpot and Mark Ruester, Crystal Lake. Other Junior division winners member of the Auxiliary Coast Guard. Survivors include her husband, Joseph, of Cedar Creek; seven children, Rick Berndt and Bunny Berndt of Wonder Lake, Debbie Berndt, Orlando, Fla., Joe Novak, bndgeview, Marilyn Novak, Chicago Ridge, Karen Novak, Rockford and Scott Novak, Cedar Creek; her mother, Lillian Tanner Tauberschmidt, Forsyth, Mo., and one sister, Bonnie Wells, Oak Lawn; and one grandchild. Memorials may be made to Christ Memorial Benevolent fund. included Lisa Thompson, 13, Woodstock jazz dancers, second; and the Nate Heldman Trio, vocal group from Woodstock. In winning the Senior division before an audience of 250, Pavkovic, rural Woodstock resident who attends Crystal Lake high school, displayed skill in interpreting and presenting Chopin's "Etude in C Sharp Minor" and "First Movement of the Second Sonata." Pavkovic has been taking music lessons for ten years. He is considering a career in music but realizes the difficulties of serious music as a profitable profession. Bill and Bertha Tammeus, Woodstock, served as contest chairmen. Janet Byrnes, McHenry, was head of the Junior division program. First place winners received $100 cash prize. Second and third place winners received sub­ stantial cash prizes, and the remainder of the contestants received expense money. The eight finalists in each of the two divisions were determined following auditions last weekend by almost forty McHenry county talent acts.
