It was a #game where an error would have meant a few runs, but every man played behind Tulley, giving him fine support, especially Stoerp, who cover-- ed second base in fine style, making a seemingly impossible catch in the third inning, nabbing the runner in a wild slide for the plate and ending a chance to score. 4 ;i'-ciley has the sam espeed and trol he displayed Sunday. -- Ray Van Landuyt was back at short and started the ball rolling in the sec-- ond when he got a nice hit to left field. ERADICATION WORK IN MANY COUNTIES OF STATE Following is taken from a recent mlcauon of the U. 8. Department of culture. It shows that Lake coun-- ty is only one of hundreds of counties in the United States that is actively pushing the drive against bovine tu-- berculosis. Dr. Grinnell reports good progress and has been tuttu.nf':n average of 900 head per month in e county. Many of our herds on second test show much progress in getting cleaned up. A good percentage show-- ffig no reactors on second test. "From a condition of doubt, skepti-- cigm and considerable antagonism that prevailed against the tuberculin tets a decade ago, there exists today hope, confidence and determination to abate the evil influence to the industry due to tuberculosis. By progress, we mean benéeficial results accruing from the work, benefits to the dairy industry, the beef industry and to swine rals ing." i Among the many advantages enjoy-- ed by livestock owners in modified counties is the premium paid by many Of the packers for hogs bred, fed and ralged in such counties when market-- ed for slaughter. From Hillsdale coun-- ty, Michigan alone since the area was declared modified, more than 20,000 hogs have been marketed, the finan-- Cal benefit to the owners of those hogs running to several thousand dol larsg--or in fact, more than enough to repay the county for all the expense it wenbt through in eradicating bovine When area tuberculosis work was innings: . .305 ..011 400 010 004--16 020-- 5 taken up, CC "V" plans to determine swine were affecte berculosis cows, OF (ubert'\llw' cattle sources. . Officials of that County Make It Just as Hot for Runners as Does Lake County Lake county is not the only com-- munity where beer runners are re-- ceiving a warm reception. Word has been received that the authorities of McHenry county are prosecuting beer smugglers just as relentlessly. In fact, the situation has progressed to such a state that Judge Edward D. Shurtleff has called a special grand jury investigation of the traffic. In the last month Shiriff Lester Eddinger of McHenry county has captured half a dozen loaded beer trucks. The beer and trucks are in custody. States Attorney V. 8.
