0 PAGE 20 - PLAIN DEALER - FRIDAY, AUGUST 18,1»78 Recall Prairie Heritage On Aug. ,19 (Aug 26 if weather interferes) from 9 a.m. until noon the McHenry County Conservation district trail guides will conduct a special prairie program for the public at the Queen Anne-Eckert prairie, on Queen Anne road northeast of Woodstock. The public is invited to come out at this time and experience their prairie heritage. At one time much of Illinois was native prairie. This vast Seas of grass once stretched all the way from the Chicago region to the foot of the Rocky Mountains but today it is reduced to mere remnants in much of its former range. McHenry county is fortunate in having one of the best examples of native prairie in Illinois. Within the confines of a small pioneer cemetery on Queen Ann road, near Wood stock, one can still see Indian grass. Porcupine grass, Turkey Foot grass. Compass plant. Blazing Star and many more rare prairie plants. Some of the tombstones within this plot go back to the 1850's and tell stories in their epitaphs, stories that reflect the hardships of pioneer life on the prairie. Perfect The perfect age for children is when they are too old to cry at night and too young to borrow the car. -News, Goodland, Kans. ANNOUNCING OUR WAREHOUSE CLEARANCE SALE Co me See, Come Save!
