SEXTON HOURS: 8:15 a.m. • 5 p.m. MONDAY FRIDAY / 9 a.m. • Noon. tturday a former church-they always give you such a „warm welcome. We went out for dinner a number of times and had all the family that's left about in for a meal, but the area of Norwood Park is changing. There are many Polish families. I sup pose as the blacks move into their areas they seek homes further out. There are also many city employees, required to live in the city limits, and as Norwood Park is the last of the good areas, they go there. It 's a nice time to sell property. We came home on a won derful air line. The Plaindealer won't let me name names (that's advertising"; but we came back in a plush plane with a fine meal, best meal I ever had on a plane That ought to give you an idea ., It took a little over two hours Our first plane trip to Miami was nearly six hours. .. That was thirty years ago As soon as something else happens that I think you would like to hear about. I'll write another note or two Till then blessings on McHenry and all those who live there Equal blame "Man can do no wrong." "Right. If there's a mis take made at home, it 's the wife's fault; and if there's one made at the office, it 's his secretary's." WHO KNOWS! JAMES HENRY PAGE 14 - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 2i. Hanner^ rector emeritus of Holy Comforter church. Episcopal, Kenilworth, a former McHenry resident now living in Florida). One of the Things that Makes Chicago Great Chicago is a great city, with manifold problems and some rare and special treats There are two major league baseball teams and other sports well represented There are perhaps twenty-five to fifty great . schools in or near the city There are beautiful parks and enormously * famous ar chitectural monuments plus some monstrosities. There are museums, galleries, and ex positions of all sort and kinds. Among these latter, the Chicago Art Institute holds one of the highest places in the nation; and thirther one fine day we bent our steps . The Pompeii display or ar facts, and models of that old city, was the main showing at the Institute while we were there The models we saw but the artifacts, shown in the Morton Wing, were much like the original Tut'ankh' a' men show recently touring the country , which we had seen on a previous visit We left that out in order to see the new ar chitectural additions. On the east toward Lake Michigan two new con temporary buildings have been added To the north is the Columbus Drive Auditorium Large roomy, with com fortable seats and excellent acoustics, it is a much needed convenience for the Institute's work i When I built St. Stephan's church 111 Miami, the plans were sent to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to be acousticised. In 1954 that cost us $500; but no one said I can't hear you') The other building to the east has as its main feature a reproduction of Chicago's original Trading Room for the Board of Trade It has a magnificent floor, balconies, lights and mirrors just as its sire had Dining, ever a problem at the Institute, lias been brought under some control by a cafeteria < al 1 new ) and a fine new restaurant These lie on the north of the eastern building On its south is the school of the Art Institute, a degree granting institution, now. for the first time, in permanent quarters built for it We roamed the new buildings and" the old. familiarizing ourselves with paintings, our old friends of other years and v i s i t s S t o p p i n g a t t h e photografic galleries we found an exposition of the local scenes of the 1920 s , I always enjoy the Art In stitute. of which I was a member for sixteen years, and its near neighbor the Field Museum where we are life members The president and director of the Field Museum Mr E Leland Webber, was a member of my congregation in Kenilworth and of our Vestry there It is another thriving, growing, show place of Chicago always full of school children on trips from near and far To the members of St Paul s church McHenry. I apologize for not coming out to a service I will excuse myself by saying St Albans.Norwood Park, was keeping the fiftieth anniversary of its present building 1 was on the Vestry when the second building to house the congregation was built, and that was fifty years ago. I was the celebrant of Holy Communion, which was quite an aftair. assisted by Fathers Gros of Sycamore, and Lehman of Mount Prospect, both former rectors who acted as deacon and subdeacort. We had incense and a sermon by the present rector. Father Hufford, who came to us from Waukegan. The writer of this article is the only parishoner of the parish ever to take holy orders As an aside: a great north shore parish once approached Rishop Burrill (I am told) and said they needed a new rector, the former rector having been called to other fields They informed the bishop they wanted an outstanding and able man. a fine preacher, "the best we can find!". Bishop Burreil, no slouch, is said to have asked; "Just how many fine and able priests have come from your parish in the last fifty years?" Of course there had been no one. This is called "Living off of Others". There was a good turnout I met many old friends and it was late when, after refreshments and visiting, we got back to Rose's sister's home.
