Dr Farmer said the pilot program would determine the worth of using paid aides on the buses before they got into what could be a very costly program The board voted to reject all bids for group health and life insurance <part of the teachers ' contract) when the abstract indicated that only one bidder had met the specifications. Board, president David Cain said the board alternatives were to award the bid to Prudential or to reject all bids and try again If they took the Prudential bid they would be over the budget for the program, l^andis said. The budget was based on estimates made by some of the other bidders Cain asked if the specification^ were so designed that only one company could bid on the solicitation. It was pointed out that Occidental Life also met the specs but was "out of the ball park" with" i ts proposal The board wondered if the teachers would go along with a $1 million' l imit instead of unlimited since the former agreement specified only $30,000 With the rejection of the bids, the board agreed to ask the Teachers ' association if i t would agree to amended specifications for Si million The difference between Prudential 's bid and the low bids was indicated at $9,000 in the discussions. MAIN 392-4750 feeler to Districts 156 and 36 about making a cost survey of transportation with a view to possible consolidation. This cost study was suggested by Paul Wember. who was asking some consideration for the Montini students now without transportation. Dr. Parmer explained the problem to the board and spectators present. A year ago school schedules changed, and when the director of tran sportation , was asked if the buses could accommodate the affected children, he said there would be no problem. But there was. Dr. Farmer continued.- While High School District 156 does extend into this part of Wonder Lake. District 15 does not The children from District 36 (Wonder Lake) were tran sported on District 156 buses, but District 15 never did serve them District 156 would stil l serve them. Dr Farmer noted, except the high school schedule lias changed <set up 1 hour> and the timing is the elementary Monffru|HJtlents Dr Farmer sara* Di|0rict 15 could forget the differences in district boundary lines and pick up the students involved The pickup would be at boundary line and only the morning connection would be good But attorneys have pointed out District 15 would be furnishing services to out-of-district students not furnished to any other student With this precedent, would District 15 provide tran sportation for students from other primary districts to private schools in McHenry9 Where is the line drawn' ' He noted that with the afternoon trip, it is 45 minutes to an hour too late and the Wonder Lake bus drivers are off duty by that t ime Dr Farmer complained that District 15. with the least responsibili ty (involvement) in the situation, is the one that is "under the gun Wember said he could see the district's problem and he of fered a solution resulting from meeting with Regional Superintendent Ed Hall. He asked the board a favor that might lead to a long term solution, a further merger of the transportation departments that would increase the utilization of buses. He wanted a cost survey to see if it would be cheaper to eliminate the District 36 Transportation department and merge it with 156 and 15. He said one of the boards involved would have to authorize the study and he was asking District 15 to do this. Dr Farmer wondered if it wouldn't be more logical for one of the other districts to okay the study as District 15 actually has the least interest in the situation Questions were raised about increased or decreased costs to the districts resulting from the proposed merger Dr. Farmer pointed out. too. that District 156 could throw the tran sportation of District 36's Montini students back into the lap of District 15 since elementary students are in volved Mrs Cuda inquired about the cost of such a survey and then moved to inquire of the other two districts about making a joint study. The motion passed with members C.ary Lockwood and Tim Althoff voting "no". In other business, the board discussed a proposed meeting with three groups at city hall .Ian 23 about demographics for the school district Farmer said that possible participants would include Council mem bers, Planning commission and Zoning Board of Appeals members and possibly the County Planning commision Mrs Cuda noted that it sounded like too many people to ac- OPEN YE AR ROl'ND SitrU a n d S u n d a y * f r o m 2 p m DUE TO CONTROVitSIAl NATURE Of I MATERIAL, THE PROGRAM (DEC. 15-21) j IS NOT RECOMMENDED | FOR YOUNG PEOPLE P*rt*(i u4«r 17 lit with s»MfTl»l«t MIMl j Eatfi DM. 14: Tk« F.rr («:J0) t Last Hois* *• tbi lift (7:00) DEC. 15-21: ONE WEEK AT MOST! 414 .'7a Mill L>A1 NITI.
