It is relatively low in calories in terms of the nu trients it provides and it helps prevent hunger pangs, says the National Live Stock and Meat Board. Although pork is near ly 100 percent digested by the body, it has a high satiety value or "staying power" to ward off the "hungries." According to calculations by the National Live Stock and Meat Board, two 3-ounce serv ings of lean cooked pork con tribute these percentages of the National Research Council's 1974 Recommended Dietary Allowances for a man 22 years old: protein 90, iron 60, thi amin 117, riboflavin 27, nia cin 37, phosphorus 51, Vita min B6 35, and B12 62, while providing only 14 percent of the NRC's Recommended Di etary Allowances for calories. "1 can remember when customers actually smiled while shopping, and took time to talk to each other," she says. "But not anymore. In these clays of inflation, ev eryone is so busy looking for a bargain, or a few-cents- off coupon, they don't have time to talk. They wear such serious looks on their fac^s." Since she said that, I 've taken more care to watch the expression of people's faces, out in public. What i catches my eye is the wor ried, anxious look 1 see in the faces of so many driyers or passengers in cars that I / pass. Oh, 1 don't mean out on the highway, for you pass so quickly you can't see thejr facial expressions. But I 'm talking about parking lots, at stop signs and the like. If you don't believe me, look around you. (Warning: keep an eye on your driving, too!) Notice the harried, almos't desperate look in the eyes of so many people. I 'm not saying this is true of everyone, by any means. But 1 scy enough of it that it makes me wonder what seems to worry so many people. I 'm sure sonic of"it is habit . We ar£ often so preoc cupied with where we're going, or where we've been, that a certain rigidity, or soberness, sort of freezes our faces into frowns. We watch the rear-\iew mirror to see the traffic behind us. We might try using it to see the person in the driver 's seat. Ourselves, that is. Our frowns.
