Here are a few safe driving practices to help you offset the dangers of driving in this weather. 1 - There is no such thing as a "completely safe" driving speed on snow or ice. You must be very careful until you can be sure how much traction you can expect from your tires. Reduce your speed accordingly. 2 - Keep your vehilce in the best possible operating con dition. Lights, brakes, Wind shield wipers, defroster fan, radiator and other parts should be in perfect order, especially for winter. 3 - Use snow tires and-or chains on your rear wheels. Snow treads will greatly im prove general traction, in cluding starting and stopping. Tire chains provide further effectiveness when ice and snow cover the road. Neither snow tires nor chains, however, will allow you to drive on slick roadways at normal speeds. 4 - Keep your windows clear. Don't start driving until the windshield is defrosted and clean. Remove snow and ice from your vehicle, even if you are only going a short distance. (A copy of the Rules of the Road booklet will be sent to you upon request. Write to Alan J. Dixon, Scretary of State, Springfield, 111., 62756). Variety Program For Choral Club In Spring A program highlighting a wide variety of music will be presented next April by the McHenry Choral club.
