Deck the walls with a denim decoration! When your teenager's be loved denims are finally done-in, don't throw them away--deck the walls with those used overalls! Snip off the pants pockets and use them to create an inexpen sive. original, thoroughly '70s bulletin board. The project is a snap, and a snappy-looking decorative plus for your teenager's inner sanctum. All you need, in addition to the pockets, are^ piece of masonite (or foam board, or even extra heavy cardboard), Elmer's Glue- All, a length of new or used denim cut to fit around the masonite with about a two- inch overlap onto the back, and a few odds and ends. Start by spreading a gener ous amount of glue on the front and sides of the maso nite, then smooth on the denim and glue the overlap of fabric onto the back. Let dry (about two hours). Add a rick-rack border by applying glue to the rick-rack and pressing it onto the denim background. Now apply glue around the edges of each denim pocket a n d p r e s s o n t o t h e background. Leave space for your teenager's favorite pin-ups and posters. For va riety, use different shades of denim pockets and. perhaps, decorate one or two by gluing on a touch of ribbon or a whimsical decal, or pocket ing a colorful hanky. When the glue dries com pletely, the pockets are ready to hold pens, pads, grooming items, all kinds of teen collectibles. Shazaam -- you've recy cled those done-in denims into a practical, spiffy wall accent! This room, for example, offers shuffleboard, chess and checkers, a dartboard, and a "refreshment stand." Basement walls were covered with a durable, prefinished hardboard panel ing from Masonite Corporation. Ranchwood Light paneling, applied to 1x2 vertical furring strips, has the look of rustic, rough-sawn barnwood and features a random width planking effect. The planks vary in color intensity and are separated by dark grooves. The textured 4x8 panels also have authentically reproduced knots, splits and cracks. V
