McHenry county youth, 13 to 18 years of age, have begun rehabilitative treatment for family and personal problems which are related to chemical abuse of drugs and alcohol. Contact Youth program will create a totally drug free therapeutic community at Pleasant VaUey farm in which local youngsters will be in troduced to positive ways to assume responsibility for their behavior. The therapeutic community represents a highly structured environment with defined boundaries, both moral and ethical. It employs community imposed sanctions and earned advancement of status and privilege as part of the recovery and growth process. Being part of something greater than oneself is con sidered an especially important factor in facilitating positive growth. Contact Youth program has established Pleasant Valley farm as a temporary site for its therapeutic community. IDDR- S, a not-for-profit Illinois corporation, staffs Contact and is still pursuing a permanent McHenry county site for the facility. The facility has been licensed by the Illinois Dangerous Drugs commission to provide this specialized treatment. Residents will live full time at Pleasant Valley farm and participate in treatment provided by the IDDRS staff who are county residents. Adolescents may be referred to Contact by families, the Department of Court Services, physicians, schools and social service agencies. The faciUity opened „ with eight McHenry county young people in full time residence.
