Gill and his wife, Dora, are residents of Wonder Lake. A home's heating system is working especially hard to keep inside temperatures com fortable this winter. Northern Illinois Gas (NI-Gas) offers some suggestions to ensure safe, efficient furnance operation. 1. - Be sure the chimney is clear of blockage so com bustion products can vent properly. Debris from deteriorated chimneys, birds, squirrels and foliage can block the flue passage. 2. - To check for proper venting, use this simple match test. Operate furnace long enough for flue pipe leading to the chimney to become hot. A match flame held at edge of diverter should be drawn up the flue. If the flame is blow down, do not operate furnace until the problem has been corrected. 3. - Checking for proper ventilation is only part of a complete preventive main tenance program. Motors, blowers, pumps and valves should be lubricated as recommended by the manufacturer. Replace filters on a warm air system monthly or as needed. 4. - Set thermostat at the lowest^comfortable setting. Adding humidity makes a lower temperature seem warmer. Denis Buch Heads Midwest Kitchen Dealers Chapter Carestoel Facilities Accredited Carestoel of McHenry, one of the midwest's newest and most modern extended care and rehabilitative 'therapy facilities, has been accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals (JCAH), it has been an nounced. According to Elaine Nelson, director of the accreditation program, this accreditation is the result of an on-site survey made recently by a field representative of JCAH's Council for Long Term Care Facilities. They determined that Carestoel is operating according to standards set by the Council and that the facility substantially complies with these standards. Carestoel of McHenry is just completing its first year of operation and is one of but 1,300 long term care facilities nationwide that have earned this recognition. According to Dorothy Kerr, R.N., managing director of the facility, which has its own gymnasium and therapeutic swimming pool as well as other special equipment, the ac creditation comes at an im portant time in Carestoel's development and serves as a reminder to the entire staff that the standards set by the JCAH must be maintained and im proved upon in the coming year. "Their standards", she said, "set forth optimal achievable goals of excellence against which a facility can measure itself and improve in areas where improvement is a must. It's a challenge we readily accept." SALESRECORD For the first time in the company's 63-year history quarterly sales for Modine Manufacturing Co. have ex ceeded the $50 million mark.
